Pro 5 Academy Scout Day

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

HOLLY SPRINGS – Pro 5 Academy is made up of a unique set of players hailing, mostly, from the Triangle area.  The goal is to attract players that would like to be part of an all-inclusive, year round baseball development program.  Players are able to train with the Pro 5 Academy staff that includes position specific training as well as strength and development.  Players are typically enrolled in a Flex High School or with a home schooled curriculum.  This schedule allows Pro 5 to hold events like they did this week with a Pro 5 Academy Scout Day on Tuesday morning.

The scout day included a full pro-style workout followed by a controlled scrimmage with live arms throwing.  PBR was on hand and able to update player statistics and evaluations after the days work.  Below we dive into several players who impressed at the workout.

Tyler Driver, RHP, Pro 5 Academy, 2019
Charlotte commit.  Length in a 6-foot-2, 185 pound frame.  Showed feel for four pitches with the fastball and slider grading out ahead of the breaking ball and change-up.  Slider continues to develop and may turn into an out-pitch as he ages.  Fastball 86-88.  Arm side run when thrown to the arm side.  Slider 76-79 with hard tilt, length, and depth at 79.  Curveball tends to roll out of the hand, staying arm side at 71-74.  Received swing and miss on change-up at 78-80, occasionally pushing it out of the hand.  Maintains hand speed on off speed pitches.  Works quick and wants to attack.
