PBR of North Carolina was on hand at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill, NC on Wednesday October 5th for a Scout Day with the C35 Organization. The scout day featured players from the 2023-2027 grad classes.

The evening began with catchers going through a defensive evaluation, followed by infielders and outfielders going through their defensive evaluations. While position players were going through their defensive workouts pitchers were in the bullpens throwing a controlled pen with Trackman collecting ball fight analytics. When players completed their defensive evaluations they ran a laser timed 60. After the defensive workouts and bullpens were completed players took live BP on the field with Trackman collecting data on each hitter.

Quick Hitters - 2023 & 2024 Pitchers

Austin Renn, RHP, Holly Springs HS, 2023
High spin righty that carried over 20in of induced vertical break on his fastball, ranging 88-90 with an average spin of 2397rpm.  Slider has late, sharp, 10/4 tilt.  Thrown with excellent arm speed, sitting 79-82, 2689rpm.  Delivery is still a bit raw with an over-the-top slot but there is intent with solid direction that should create issues in and out of the zone for hitters.

Ty Mathis, RHP, Harrells Christian Acad, 2023
Athletic with broad shoulders at 6-foot, 180 pounds.  Loose, athletic hips.  Good direction.  Long, clean arm swing to a high-¾ slot.  Fastball at 84-85, 1988rpm.  Good ride with 19.6in of induced vertical break with 1:00 spin tilt at release.  Short late action on the slider at 75-77, 19894rpm.

Nicholas Pope, RHP, Lee County HS, 2023
Average build.  6-foot, 185 pounds.  Vertical through balance with a long arm swing, slightly behind the body line, reaching toward 2B, working to two different slots.  Showed feel for the fastball from a high-¾ and a side arm slot.  Average arm speed.  Showed solid feel for the arm side, elevated throughout most of the bullpen.  Fastball at 77-79 with average ride through the zone and some arm side movement.  Breaking ball from a high-¾ slot with short, 10/4 tilt.

Walker Ward, LHP, Harrells Christian Acad, 2023
Broad shoulders and some length at 6-foot, 190 pounds.  Simple delivery.  Repeats.  Level with solid direction early, spinning off to the 3B side through release.  Medium arm swing fights some early effort before working freely through a high-¾ slot.  Average arm speed.  Fastball at 73-74 with solid ride and some arm side movement.  Slider at 61-68, 1698rpm.  Showed feel for the arm side on the change-up at 65-67.

Walker McDuffie, RHP, Lee County HS, 2024
Lean, straight line build at 5-foot-10, 155 pounds.  Easy to see the frame handling strength gains in the near future.  Good rhythm and stability over the rubber.  Strong arm swing works to a low-¾ slot that can float at times, with a purpose.  Delivery and slot allow for deception.  Fastball works with sink metrics and heavy arm side run.  Sat 86-88  1:30 spin out of the hand. Breaking ball at 75-77.  Late, hard horizontal action.  Explosive at times.  Spin up to 2719rpm.

Sean Darrigrand, RHP, Home School, 2024
Lean, 6-foot-4, 185 pounds.  Some effort in the delivery but gets on line.  Long arm action with the elbow working above the shoulder line as he gets to a high-¾ slot.  Fastball at 80-82.  Sink metrics with heavy horizontal run measuring 13.5in out of the hand.

Aiden Carroll, LHP, South Garner HS, 2024
Skinny 6-foot-1, 165 pounds.  Long arm swing to a high-¾ slot.  Fastball ranged 78-81 with arm side run out of the hand.  Showed some feel for both sides of the plate.  Early action on the slider, but positioned to be more explosive as he adds strength and arm speed with maturation.  Slider ranged 64-68, 1472rpm.
