Quick Hitters: Gate City Titans Pitchers

Brandon Hall
Executive Director of Scouting, PBR NC

PBR was on hand at High Point Christian Academy's home field to run a Scout Day for the Gate City Titans.  The Titans had over 30 players in attendance, representing NC, VA, and WV on their roster, with a majority of players hailing from the Triad Region of NC.  Players went through a full pro-style workout with pitchers throwing controlled bullpens.

The pro-style workout started with a laser timed 60, followed by an offensive and defensive workout for the position players.  TrackMan was used during the live BP to gather ball-flight information on each hitter.  After the position player workout, pitchers threw a controlled bullpen, again with TrackMan gathering ball-flight info out of the hand.

Below we highlight some pitchers who stood out during the Gate City Titans Scout Day.

Quick Hitters-Position Players

Adam Blevins (RHP, East Forsyth HS, 2021) -- 5-foot-9, 145 pounds.  Coiled and closed with a rotational delivery through release.  Strike thrower.  Showed feel for all three pitches.  Spun the ball well with a max 2156rpm on the fastball, reaching 80.  Slider spun up to 2110rpm.

Hunter Greear (RHP, Northwest Guilford HS, 2023) -- Athletic and strong in a 6-foot, 180 pound frame.  Medium arm swing to an over-the-top slot.  Average arm speed.  High spin metrics.   Fastball with an average spin rate of 2341rpm at 79, but lacking elite induced vertical break with a 12:00 spin tilt.  Breaking ball spun up to 2307rpm with 17 inches of horizontal break and a 10/4 tilt at 65.  Late, hard action on the breaking ball.

Conner Hale (RHP, Ledford HS, 2023) -- 5-foot-11, 145 pounds.  Raw.  Above average arm speed.  Short arm swing working to load the scapular.  High-3/4 slot.  Fastball peaked at 76.  Downer breaking ball, thrown with solid arm speed.

Paxton Tucker (RHP, Magna Vista HS (VA), 2022) -- Athletic 6-foot-1, 167 pounds.  Plunging arm action out of the glove with a slight hook in the hand.  Long arm swing works to be on time with an over-the-top slot.  Fastball up to 83 with a spin rate of 2034rpm.  Cutter and slider have similar metrics and break.  Both thrown with intent and feel.

Thomas Franks (LHP, Bethany Community School, 2022) -- 5-foot-9, 134 pounds.  Loose with a strong arm swing loading the scapular with ease.  High-3/4 slot.  Above average arm speed.  Fastball flooded the zone at 73.  Good feel for cutter, curveball, and change-up.  Late action to the breaking ball.  Change-up has solid arm speed and deception with arm side run.
