Quick Hitters: Mooresville Prospect ID - Pitchers

Brandon Hall
Executive Director of Scouting, PBR NC

PBR was at Moor Park in Mooresville, NC on Wednesday September 16th to run a Prospect ID.  The day consisted of 35 players from across North Carolina running through a full pro-style workout, with pitchers throwing controlled bullpens.

The workout began with a laser timed 60, followed by offensive and defensive evaluations.  Pitchers threw bullpens to conclude the night.  Throughout the day, PBR Scouts were on hand to collect statistics and video on each player in attendance.  TrackMan was used during the offensive evaluations and the pitchers' bullpens to collect ball flight information.

Below we highlight some of the pitchers who stood out during their pro-style workout.

Quick Hitters-Position Players

Aidan Smith (RHP, Gaston Day, 2021) – Lean, lanky 6-foot-4, 170 pound frame.  Will handle increases in mass and strength to the frame.  Quick arm, working with some effort, bumping 89, sitting 85-87.  Has intent.  Works to maximize hand speed and spin on every pitch.  Fastball spun up to 2520 rpm with a very high induced vertical break.  Slider showed -13.5 inches of horizontal break at 2416rpm and sitting 77-78.  Increased stuff has led to command issues that should resolve with reps as the stuff becomes more of a constant.

Will Banks (RHP, Hickory HS, 2022) – Physical righty stands 6-foot-6, 200 pounds.   Effort in the delivery, fighting for rhythm.  Over-the-top slot.  Showed feel for the fastball.  Fastball sat 88-89 and bumped 90 with a max spin rate of 2511rpm.  Induced vertical break of 18.4 inches with a 1:00 spin tilt.  Hard, downer breaking ball at 74-75, spinning up to 2319rpm.

Jordan Hart (RHP, West Stanly HS, 2023) – Short arm action and over-the-top slot.  Ball has ride through the zone.  Breaking ball was tight, spinning at 1977rpm, ranging 71-73.

Tanner Allison (RHP, Pine Lake Prep, 2022) – Thin and lanky frame, standing 5-foot-10, 135 pounds.  Up to 84 from a long arm swing and over-the-top slot.  Above average arm speed.  Consistent spin and arc to the breaking ball, up to 65 with 1962rpm spin rate.  Slight hump out of the hand, slow, with gradual depth creating -13.1 inches of horizontal break and -2.8 inches of vertical tilt.

Brandon Cartrett (LHP, Hickory Ridge HS, 2022) – Strike thrower with feel for three pitches and the ability to locate to both sides.  Elevated on command as well with an ability to follow with located off speed.  Easy arm action.  Repeats the delivery.  Stable over the rubber.  Average arm speed.  High-3/4 slot.  Fastball up to 79.

Chad Harvey (RHP, Mooresville HS, 2022) – Loose arm, touching 85 from a ¾ slot.  Max spin on the fastball at 2283rpm.  Secondary stuff is raw, working from a lagged arm position at foot-strike.  Stuff can get firmer as he develops.
