Quick Hitters: TPA Pitchers

Brandon Hall
Executive Director, PBR of NC

Thursday June 18th saw PBR Scouts converge at Ting Park in Holly Springs, NC to host a Scout Day with The Performance Academy (TPA).  TPA's Scout Day featured close to fifty players from their organization.  Players covered classes from the 2021 - 2023 graduating years.

During the Scout Day, pitchers threw a controlled bullpen with information gathered on TrackMan and a Stalker Pro SII radar gun.  Position players were able to run a laser timed 60, on the artificial surface at Ting Stadium, followed by a defensive and offensive workout.  During the live BP portion, hitters used Blast Motion sensors to measure pre-contact analytics and TrackMan measured ball flight off the bat.

Today we dive into some of the some of the position players that made a quick impression.  The Quick Hitters blog is not intended to be a "top prospect" list, but rather a quick glance at some of the players that had a good day..  More information will come as the PBR Scouting Staff continues to dive head first into all of the information gathered.

Quick Hitters: TPA Position Players

Adam Booker (RHP, Middle Creek HS, 2022) – Lanky frame.  Good feel for his secondary stuff.  Breaking ball up to 68 a median spin of 1962 rpm.  Fastball peaked at 83

Jacob Coffin (LHP, Apex HS, 2021) – Strike thrower with a high waist and frame that should continue to add strength.  Quick arm with a fastball up to 84.  Straight change has deception present.

Dean Collum (RHP, Holly Springs HS, 2022) – Fastball ranged 85-87, spinning at 2256 rpm.  Big frame with long, clean arm stroke working to an over-the-top slot.  Change has fade.  Slider spin up to 2378 rpm.

Shea DeFalco (LHP, Corinth Holders HS, 2021) – Lean frame that has added strength since we saw him last fall.  Fastball up to 79.  Athletic presence and long, clean stroke to an over-the-top slot.  Good feel for a change with deception and fade.

Brady Nathison (LHP, Fuquay-Varina HS, 2023) – Pounded the zone.  Some effort in the release but showed feel for all three pitches.  Up to 81.  Good arm speed and fade on the change-up.

Lance Phillips (RHP Green Hope HS, 2022) – Average frame with strength present.  Strike thrower showed feel for all three.  Cut his change-up occasionally but maintained solid arm speed.

Jared Mayer (RHP, South Garner HS, 2022) – Sidearm slot with feel for his fastball and change-up.  Fastball up to 73.  Good feel and athleticism from the side slot makes him an interesting follow.

Will Saxenmeyer (RHP, Holly Springs HS, 2022) – Thin and lanky.  Long arm swing to an over-the-top slot with average feel that is still developing.  At 6’4”, 165, the frame should add strength and see the fastball grow from a top offering of 85.
