South Stanly Hosts 4 Team Scrimmage

Brandon Hall
Mid-Atlantic Executive Director

PBR was at South Stanly High School on Saturday February 26th for a 4-team scrimmage.  The event featured the host South Stanly HS with Piedmont HS, North Stanly HS, and South Rowan HS.  Below are some team notes and a Scout Blog from the event.

Team Notes

Each club played 2 games that were scheduled to last a maximum of 2 hours.  The game play gave each club and coaching staff the opportunity to fine tune their lineups and to see how they may be able to attack opponents during the season.

South Stanly
Older club that looked confident early in the season.  Ran out a number of arms throughout the day with Reece Crump leading the way.  Offensively the Bulls will be led by SR SS Jaxon Barbee.  Barbee is an athletic player that can play with an advanced pace.

South Rowan
There is some star power on the Raider’s roster in 2022.  East Carolina commit, Nathan Chrismon anchors the defense at SS and should allow the pitching staff to attack the zone with confidence.  LHP Haiden Leffew looked fairly sharp in his early season outing and provides Coach Thad Chrismon with an ace at the top of the staff.  Offensively, the Raiders will look to create some havoc at the top of the order with Kane Kepley and Chrismon, both advanced runners, setting the table for Ty Hubbard.

North Stanly
The Comets should be an exciting club to watch in 2022.  They will be lead on the bump by Cole Smith and Nic Melton.  Melton is committed to UNC Asheville.  Pitching and defense will need to lead the way, but they could be a dynamic offense that creates stress for opposing teams.  Top to bottom, the Comets were working to be aggressive on the bases and Coach Scott Clemens will be working to have all 9 hitters attacking defenses in different ways inside the box.

Piedmont
The Panthers look to be a scrappy club in 2022 with an ability to create some runs with an offense that will attack in various ways.  The top and bottom of the order were aggressive on the bases while there is some thump in the middle of the order.  For the most part the Panther arms were around the strike zone.  They will need to mix and match throughout the year to keep area offenses at bay.

Scout Blog

Jaxon Barbee, SS, South Stanly HS, 2022
Athletic with strength present at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds.  Has twitch.  Moves laterally very well. Decent rhythm between the hands and feet on the infield.  Solid, simple exchanges.  Some effort and limited carry in the arm, but with accuracy from several different platforms.  Right handed hitter is setup balanced, using a knee trigger in his load.  Front side opens early but there is plate coverage, working flat through the zone.
