Bennett Nance is a 2018 graduate from Morehead HS, in Eden, NC.  A LHP with a feel for the zone and an advanced breaking ball, he jumped on the scene throughout the summer circuit, culminating with an outing at the PBR Future Games in early August.  Nance committed to the University of North Carolina and was kind enough to talk to PBR about his process and decision.

Name:
  Bennett Nance
High School: Morehead
Summer/Fall Team: NCBA Golden Spikes
Position: LHP
Grad Year: 2018
PBR Events: PBR Future Games – August 4-6, 2016 – Indianapolis, IN

Scouting Notes:  Nance has a lanky 6-2 frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. Long, loose action and a very quick arm stroke with normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and slightly closed as he strides on line to a slightly closed landing with a slight fall off finish. Fastball had late, slight sink and decent angle, running 80-83, touching 84. Swing and miss curveball with sharp, late 1/7 action and good armspeed that was 75-76. Change-up had decent armspeed and sink at 73-75. Pounded the strike zone and has more in the tank.

Interview with PBR:

PBR: What factors lead to your commitment to North Carolina?

BN:  UNC has tradionally been known as a strong academic school. They have a history of success in baseball both in appearances in the CWS and developing players for the draft.

PBR:  From an academic stand point, is there a particular interest or desired major, at this time?

BN:  I'm undecided as of now.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?

BN:  ECU, UNCW, and Liberty.

PBR:  Where there any coaches on the recruiting trail that you built a relationship with?

BN:  I built very good relationships with Coach Forbes (UNC) of course, and Coach Roszel (ECU).

PBR:  Where did the coaches at UNC see you?

BN:  UNC saw me at the Dirty 30 event in Durham, NC. Also, at the NC State Games in Cary, NC. I pitched at UNC during a showcase tournament. I was invited to attend the PBR Future Games in Indiana and UNC attended that event as well.

PBR:  What are your goals for this upcoming fall and spring?

BN:  I plan to work even harder than I have been, and be at the best of my ability when I arrive in Chapel Hill.

PBR:  Who are some of the coaches, or people, that have helped develop you on the baseball field?

BN:  My dad, brother, and Coach Bankhead that coaches me now at NCBA.

PBR:  Any advice for the players in the 2018 & 2019 classes that are beginning their process?

BN:  Recruiting comes at different times for each player. Keep working hard and don't get discouraged. From my own personal experience, the recruiting process hit quickly. It was both exciting and overwhelming at the same time. But I took time to process everything, and make sure the school I decide on is the right fit for me all in all. Lastly, don't make the decision quicker than you feel comfortable with.
