North Carolina's Top 25 Sixties of 2018

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

The New Year is here and the high school season is just around the corner.  In preparation for the 2019 spring season, PBR will run several events in January and February, allowing our scouts to get updates on players, and allowing players to continue their process of prep for the spring while connecting to the college coaches and pro scouts that follow PBR.

2019 PBR of NC Winter Events

Before we turn the page on 2018, lets look back at some of the statistically dominant performances of last year.  At PBR events, PBR scouts are able to collect some analytical data and add it to PBR Player Profile pages.  With over 8 million PBR Player Profile page views in 2018, PBR has created a one-stop-shop for college coaches and pro scouts to view a prospect’s notes, evaluations, video, statistics, and more.

Today we take a look at the top 60 yard dash times from 2018.  Our PBR staff works to gather run times and evaluations on quickness and agility from players at each event.  During the summer and fall, outdoor events allow for a timed 60 yard dash.  All 60 yard times at PBR events in North Carolina are taken with a laser timer.  Players work from a baseball start and are able to start on their own, without a coach or evaluator dictating when they are ready.  The laser timer begins as the athlete makes his first movement and the timer ends once the laser is tripped at the end of the 60 yard course.

Top 60 Yard Dash Times of 2018

The PBR Top Underclass Games saw the 60 yard dash record for North Carolina fall twice in the span of five minutes.  First Archie Herring (OF, Westchester Country Day, 2021) turned in a blazing time of 6.52.  The next group that ran saw Wes Turley (OF, Porter Ridge HS, 2020) run a 6.48.  These times each ended up in the top three overall times of 2018, with Turley posting the fastest sixty.

The next three fastest times were each run at an organizational scout day.  Evan Harding (OF, Clayton HS, 2019) turned in a 6.50 at the Performance Academy Scout Day in June.  Christian Thomas (OF, Central Cabarrus HS, 2020), who had the fastest time of 2017, posted a 6.62 sixty at the CBA Copperhead Scout Day in August.  Luke Nelson (OF, J.M. Robinson HS, 2019) and Jaylen Palmer-Hill (3B, East Mecklenburg HS, 2021) each ran a 6.72 at the Charlotte MegaStars Scout Day.

Top sixty times were turned in by players from the 2019, 2020, and 2021 class.  The 2019 class took 12 of the top 25 times.  The 2020 class posted 11 top times with the 2021 class claiming 4 top spots.  PBR of NC is fortunate to have the use of several turf fields across the state and of the 27 players running the top 25 times, 16 runners were on field turf for their sixties.

Below are the top 25 times from the laser timed sixties in 2018.  The times ranged from 6.48 – 6.93 on the timer.
