Top Prospect Games: Quick Hitters - Pitchers

Brandon Hall
Mid-Atlantic Scouting Director

PBR of North Carolina hosted its Top Prospect Games on August 3rd at Campbell University. The event featured players from across the state in the 2023-2026 grad classes. The Top Prospect Games continues to be one of the most popular summer events on the PBR summer schedule with several college coaches in attendance taking a look at the prospects in attendance.

The day started with position players taking batting practice on the field with Trackman collecting ball flight data. After BP position players went through a defensive evaluation that began with the outfielders followed by the catchers and infielders. When players finished their defensive workout they ran a laser timed 60 using Swift Technology. In the afternoon players were split into 5 teams with each team playing 2 controlled games with Trackman gathering information on each pitcher that threw in the game.

Below we continue our breakdown of the players in attendance with notes of some of the position players from each team.

Quick Hitters - Pitchers

Konor Davis, LHP, Alexander Central HS, 2023
Strength present at 6-foot, 190 pounds.  Fastball up to 83, 2049rpm.  Solid ride through the zone with 11:15 spin rate out of the hand.  Better feel for the arm side.  Early sweep on the breaking ball at 68-70.  Long arm swing, turning the ball early as he gets to the cocked phase.  High-¾ slot.  Good athlete around the bump.

Bryant Kimbrell, RHP, Scotland HS, 2024
Broad shoulders and physical at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds.  Fastball at 79-84, cutting occasionally from an over-the-top slot.  Strike thrower showed an ability to work to both sides of the plate.  Breaking ball up to 73, 2196rpm with 11/5 tilt.

Bobby Osburn, RHP, Fuquay-Varina HS, 2023
Thin frame with athleticism present at 6-foot, 165 pounds.  Long arm swing and high-¾ slot that seems to work lower at times.  Good arm speed.  Attacked hitters with a fastball - slider combination.  Fastball at 85-88, 1993rpm.  Sink and run metrics with a 1:30 spin tilt out of the hand.  Slider has sweeping action with occasional length at 76-78, 2076rpm.  Similar window on both the fastball and slider.  Arm action and frame suggest there is room to his ceiling.  Slider should tighten and could become a weapon in the near future.

Garrett Pyne, RHP, Hickory Ridge HS, 2023
Broad shoulders and physical presence at 6-foot-6, 240 pounds. Controlled over the rubber with solid direction, working level throughout.  Long arm swing working to a position of strength and a high-¾ slot.  Fastball at 87-90, 2171rpm with sink metrics, playing true out of the hand with 12:45 spin tilt at release.  Comfort to the arm side.  Some ride when he turned it loose and elevated in the zone.  Paired the fastball with a slider and split-finger change-up.  Good three pitch mix; he shows the ability to mix on command.  Slider has more length than depth.  Split-finger tumbled late with low spin and good arm speed through release.  Still room to the ceiling as he continues to work to pace his delivery, potentially speeding up the arm through release.

Logan Lowe, SS/RHP, Jordan HS, 2024
One of the more intriguing athletes on the field for the Top Prospect Games.  Very athletic with twitch and strength in a 5-foot-10, 150 pound frame.  Profiles as a position player first but attacked the zone at 81-84.  Clean arm action and good direction.  Ran 6.54 on the laser timed 60.

Ethan Plesser, LHP, Cape Fear HS, 2024
Athletic frame with broad shoulders at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds.  Long arm swing, plunging out of the glove, works back to a high-¾ slot.  Some deception in the arm path with solid arm speed.  Fastball peaked at 81, 1952rpm.  Sink metrics with heavy run, averaging over 15in of arm side run.  9:45 spin tilt at release.  Breaking ball at 68-69, 2273rpm works for length with a horizontal path.  Better feel for the arm side.

Austin Renn, RHP, Holly Springs HS, 2023
Catcher that jumps on the mound and has a solid arm path with direction and good rhythm.  Can spin the baseball with the fastball peaking at 88, 2397rpm, and the slider sitting at 79-81, 2503rpm.  Showed feel for the zone, pounding the down zone.

Connor Shoulders, LHP, Dixon HS, 2023
Crafty lefty that has shown an ability to create soft contact and get swing and miss with his change-up.  Fastball up to 82, 1835 rpm.  Some sink with heavy arm side run, averaging 10in of horizontal run.  10:30 spin tilt out of the hand.  Sprayed the fastball a bit but was consistently around the zone.

H.L. Smith, LHP, Fuquay-Varina HS, 2023
UNC commit.  Long, rangy, athletic frame, standing 6-foot-5, 190 pounds.  Long arms swing, wrapping the body line before getting to a high-¾ slot.  Slight cross-fire creates angle vs. left and right handed hitters.  Excellent arm speed allows the fastball to play up.  Fastball ranged 87-89, 1961rpm, with sink and run and a 10:15 spin tilt out of the hand.  Run played to both sides of the plate.  Showed feel for both sides of the plate and the down zone.  Mixed slider and change-up, showing good feel for a slider at 73-75 and sweeping action out of the hand.  Frame and arm action suggest high ceiling potential.  Length and attack angle create issues for hitters.

Carson Edmiston, RHP, West Wilkes HS, 2023
Intriguing frame with length and lean athleticism present at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds.  Good posture and direction through the delivery, working level.  Long arm swing plunges out of the glove.  Some elbow lead back to a high-¾ slot.  Above average arm speed.  Fastball at 85-88, 2186rpm, playing true out of the hand with 12:15 spin tilt at release.  Worked fastball to both sides and showed some feel for elevating late in counts.  Breaking ball at 73-75, 2241rpm.  10/4 tilt, with occasional abrupt, sharp turns.

Jordan Hart, RHP, West Stanly HS, 2023
Average frame at 6-foot, 150 pounds.  Long arm swing bottoms out leaving the glove and working back to an over-the-top slot.  Better than average arm speed.  Fastball at 82-83 with run out of the hand.  Worked fastball to both sides, elevated at times.  Slider at 77-80, still maturing, but with solid arm speed through release.

Jarred LIndholm, RHP, Oak Grove HS, 2023
One of the more interesting arms from the event.  Lean frame at 6-foot, 195 pounds.  Long arm swing, working with athleticism through an over-the-top slot.  Fastball ranged 85-89 with 1:00 spin tilt at release, but occasionally cutting when working to the glove side.  Slider came out of a similar window with tight, late action at 82-84.  Fastball and slider splits suggest the fastball may take a jump soon, or the slider could become a big weapon with slightly more depth.  Around the zone with both, showed some feel for moving the fastball in and out.

Houston Wills, RHP, Holly Springs HS, 2023
Athletic frame and delivery.  Stands 6-foot-3, 170 pounds.  Good direction, working level, landing in-line and square.  Long arm swing, plunging out of the glove.  Some effort back to a high-¾ slot with better than average arm speed.  Fastball at 85-87, 2201rpm.  Sink metrics, with the ball playing true out of the hand with 12:45 spin tilt at release.  Breaking ball has depth and sweep in a 10/4 shape at 71-74, 2537rpm.  Breaking ball should become a big weapon as it continues to mature and there is more feel for landing it and expanding with it.  Room to his ceiling as the athleticism on the mound is advanced.

Clay Rosser, RHP, Grimsley HS, 2025
Lean, athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 161 pounds.  Solid direction and arm swing.  Fastball peaked at 77.  Showed good feel for the arm side, working the down zone.  Solid follow as he continues to add strength to the frame.

Mathew Lefevers, RHP, Hickory HS, 2024
Long levers at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds.  Choppy rhythm in the delivery with a long arm swing and over-the-top slot.  Better than average arm speed.  Fastball ranged 82-86 with good run out of the hand.  Worked the down zone.  Short, horizontal action on the breaking ball at 75-76.

Shane Bernhardt, LHP, Holly Springs HS, 2024
Physical presence at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds.  Clean with good direction and rhythm throughout the delivery.  Short arm swing to a high-¾ slot.  Fastball at 81-83, 1883rpm.  Sink metrics with just slight run and 11:15 spin tilt at release.  Good feel for the arm side on the fastball.

Nick Russo, RHP, Weddington HS, 2025
6-foot-2, 170 pounds.  Strike thrower attacked with a fastball - curveball mix.  Some effort through the release.  Fastball at 82-85, 2169rpm with some sink and run.  Breaking ball has big, early, 11/5 tilt at 69-74.
