UPDATED: NC Class of 2020 Rankings

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

The winter provides players with time away from the field and a time to continue to improve their game without wearing their bodies down with a hectic schedule of travel and games.  Towards the end of the winter season, PBR begins to run some events to allow players to update their profiles as well as compete next to players from across the state that have elevated their game.  As the high school season begins, it is time to update player rankings and we take a look at the updated NC Class of 2020 Rankings today.

The NC 2020 Class Rankings list the top 175 players in the PBR player database.  There is not a lot of shuffling come off of an off-season, there were several players who took big steps forward and have moved themselves up the list.   PBR scouts have also been out in the early high school season, with an ability to update player reports and grades as games are covered.

Several of the big movers were part of the PBR ProCase in February.  Hayden Summers (SS/RHP, NW Guilford HS), a UNC commit, has added fifteen pounds of muscle to his frame and it has translated into arm speed and bat speed.  At the ProCase, Summers impressed during his bullpen and during the position player portion of the day.  The fastball was up to 92 with angle and his prototypical control.

Joining Summers at the ProCase and moving up in the rankings is Coby Ingle (RHP, Rockingham County HS), a North Carolina St commit.  Ingle can attack with a solid 3 pitch mix and the fastball continues to grow as the lanky, athletic frame continues to fill out.

Seth Keener (RHP, East Surry HS) jumped onto the rankings in our last update after attending a fall event.  He was on hand for the PBR Preseason All-State in January and PBR has been out to see him this spring.  The way he continues to progress, with loose hips and a very quick arm, has Keener inside the Top 15 in the 2020 rankings.

Two players that made jumps based on game evaluations are Cooper King (RHP, Carmel Chrisitian HS) and John Miralia (LHP, Providence Day).  Each moved up over 20 slots on the rankings based on reports from PBR scouts that saw them early this spring.  King is uncommitted, while Miralia is committed to Duke.

Eleven players are making their debut in the 2020 rankings after impressing the PBR staff at winter events or in high school game play.  Daniel Brown (LHP, Broughton HS) is an intriguing talent that is still developing into a very lanky frame.  The arm is loose and quick, throwing strikes in his bullpen session at the Preseason All-State.  While still raw, the ceiling is very high for Brown who enters the rankings inside the Top 100.
