PBR Staff
Prep Baseball Report

Player of the Week nominations are submitted by High School coaches across North Carolina each week.  Along with the nominations, Prep Baseball Report is diving into box scores, talking to coaches and scouts, and attending as many games as possible.

PBR's staff sifts through the information sent in and seen by our scouts to determine the PBR Player of the Week every Tuesday.  You can see a full list of players off to a hot start in Diamond Notes, a collection of notes, stats, and highlights from the past week, published every Wednesday during the season.

This week’s Player and Pitcher of the Week will cover Week 8 of the North Carolina High School season.  Our Pitcher of the Week fired a key no-hitter, while our hitter of the week propelled his team to two conference game wins and a non-conference win that will help the resume at the end of the year.

Player of the Week

Jake Smith, SS, Oak Grove HS, 2024
Oak Grove dominated Montgomery Central HS in a two game series, moving the Grizzlies into 3rd place in the Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference.  In the series, Smith led an attack that piled on 27 runs in the two games. From his leadoff spot, Smith accounted for 9 runs while racking up 5 hits and 5 stolen bases in the series.  Between the conference games, Smith continued his offensive ways vs. Davie County.  In this game he helped Oak Grove to the 9-2 victory, getting 4 hits, 1 triple, scoring 2 runs and stealing another base.  For the week, Smith hit .750 with 1 double, 2 triples, 6 stolen bases, 6 runs scored and 3 RBI.

Pitcher of the Week

Bryson Moseman, RHP, AC Reynolds HS, 2024
AC Reynolds split a key series with Asheville HS to remain tied for 2nd place in the Mountain 3A/4A Conference, tied with Asheville, sitting behind TC Roberson.  In game one of the series, Reynolds would ride the arm of Moseman to a 2-0 win. Moseman went the distance, firing a no-hitter in the win.  Over the 7 inning performance, Moseman struckout 6 and walked 1, throwing 81 pitches, 50 for strikes ( 62%).  He was ahead of 12 of 22 hitters after the 1st pitch and induced 10 ground ball outs in the win.
