In front of a packed house at East Rowan, two uncommitted arms went to work in what was expected to be a pitching dual… Neither disappointed.   RHP Owen White, ranked No. 1 in the 2018 class in NC, took the bump for Carson HS.  On the other end 2017 RHP John Owen got the start for East Rowan.  The standing room crowd would not be disappointed as both pitched well, and Owen White took it to another level, firing a no-hitter to secure the 2-0 win for Carson HS.

White, coming off a 1-0 loss in week one, was electric out of the gate.  Flashing two fastballs that jumped on hitters and a wipe-out slider, the Mustang hitters were off balance from the start.  Inning after inning, White set hitters down at a quick and efficient rate, throwing a complete game in 87 pitches.  Throwing first pitch strikes to 13 of 21 hitters, and commanding the zone with 64% strikes over the outing, there were few chances for the Mustangs to threaten.

Two runners reached on walks but both were cut down prior to advancing.  In the 3rd, White walked the leadoff hitter of the inning, but did a good job of controlling the run game, giving catcher Garrett Alewine a chance to throw the would be base-stealer out by several feet with an accurate throw.  Alewine did a good job of receiving White throughout the night, handling the high end stuff.  Again, in the 6th, a walk was erased.  This time White induced a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning and setup the chance for the no-no in the 7th

White faced the minimum, 21 hitters, over the 7 inning complete game.  He struck out 8 and walked 2.  A complete break down of White’s stuff and outing, with video, will be available on the NC HS Scout Blog.

Keeping East Rowan in the game, Owen also worked a complete game in 94 pitches, throwing 72% strikes.  A senior with a good feel for pitching, Owen flooded the zone with fastball and curveball, working ahead of 16 of the 27 hitters he faced.

Carson pushed across their two runs in the 3rd, executing their offense and coming up with timely hitting.  At the bottom of the order, a leadoff, infield single by Solli Holshouser would be followed with a fielders’ choice to put Cameron Prugh on 1st with one out.  Back at the top of the order, Cole Hales laid down a SAC bunt to setup a runner on 2nd with 2 outs.  Logan Ridenhour singled up the middle, scoring Prugh.  Ridneour advanced to 2B on the throw to the plate, allowing him to  score on Owen White’s single to right.  The two runs would be all White needed to put the Mustangs away.

For East Rowan, Owen gave up 5 hits, 2 runs, both earned, allowing 1 walk  and striking out 9.  A full report on Owen’s stuff will be available on the NC HS Scout Blog.
