NC: Wilson Tobs HS Classic

On Saturday, Fleming Stadium and the Wilson Tobs hosted their annual High School Varsity Classic.  The Classic featured 5 games, all at Fleming Stadium, with 10 North Carolina High School teams.  PBR was on hand for 3 of the 5 games, including 2 Power 25 clubs.  Below we recap each game, and highlight some of the talent on hand for the day.

 



Game 2 of the Day


Pinecrest - 2 JH Rose - 4


A Senior laden lineup prevailed as JH Rose overcame an early 2-0 deficit by plating 3 runs in the 3rd and the winning run in the 5th.  Grayson Myrick led the way, hitting a 2R HR to jump start the offense.  He also doubled in the game.  Chase Anderson and Myrick combined on the win, giving up just 2 hits.  With the win, JH Rose moves to 9-2, while Pinecrest fell to 9-3.

Game 3 of the Day


Ayden-Grifton - 4 Croatan - 4


A wild and exciting game ended in a tie, as the format of the day only allowed for games to last 7 innings.  Croatan took a 3-0 lead after the 1st and maintained a 4-1 lead from the 4th into the 7th.  In the top of the 7th, the Chargers would tie the game on three walks and one single.  The Chargers did overcome 5 errors on the day.  Croatan out hit Ayden-Grifton 6-3 in the game.

Game 4 of the Day


DH Conley - 6 #21 Hoggard - 5


Game 4 started off with 2 clean innings, but from there the pace was frantic and the excitement level was high.  Conley scored 3 in the 3rd with Hoggard answering with 2 in the 4th and then taking the lead with 3 in the 5th.  Conley would tie the game in the 6th and take the lead in the 7th.  


Coleton Norris started for Hoggard and worked into the 6th inning.  Norris made big pitches throughout his outing, working around 8 walks.  Riley Treadaway was solid for Conley in his start, getting into the 4th and scattering 3 hits around his 5 walks.  Ryan Smith stabilized the Vikings on the bump, relieving Treadaway, allowing them to make the late run, working 3.1 innings, striking out 5.


In the top of the 7th, Spencer Bradley drew a walk to start the inning.  He would score when Luke Lambert doubled down the left field line.  Tucker Bowyer worked out of the jam from there but did take the loss on the night.


With the win, DH Conley moves to 10-1.  Hoggard drops to 8-1.
