Prep Baseball hosted 4 events and ran 6 scout days in the Fall season.  The events allow Prep Baseball Scouts to be around the players of North Carolina, gathering information, stats, and analytics at each event.  Players also receive a full video from their workout, hosted on their Prep Baseball profile page.  As we look back at the fall, we are going to break down some of the key analytics gathered at each event, giving coaches, players, scouts, and fans a chance to see which players shined in the fall.

We continue our Fall Review with a look at the pitchers who performed at a high level.  Today we examine the top fastballs, looking at several metrics tracked in bullpens and live game metrics by TrackMan.  Pure velocity can give us insight to stuff.  Add in movement metrics and effective velocity rates and we have a much better view of what hitters may struggle with in the box.

Top Fastball Effective Velocity

Effective velocity paints the picture of how the fastball is playing against the hitter.  With the spin rate and movement factor, does the fastball ride through the zone or have any characteristics that could give hitters an issue finding their timing.

Fastball Peak Spin Scores

The spin score is a factor of the velocity and spin rate on each pitch thrown.  Typically, spin rate will climb with velocity, meaning that the average spin rate on a fastball will be higher as the velocity of the fastball climbs.  The Spin Score rates how the fastball is spinning compared to its velocity.
