Prep Baseball North Carolina continued its 2025 coverage with the Preseason ID on Sunday January 26, the Prep Baseball scouting staff hosted players at Athlete's Lab in Maiden, NC. This setup provided an ideal environment for players to showcase their skills during the evaluation periods.
The Preseason ID events serve as a valuable opportunity for high school players to assess their progress as they approach the spring season. Participants can measure the effectiveness of their off-season training and its impact on their on-field potential. Additionally, these events enable players to update their Prep Baseball Player Profiles, connecting with over 1,000 college coaches and scouts who subscribe to Prep Baseball.
The Rising Stars event is designed for middle school players, offering an early introduction to the metrics, staff, and evaluation processes utilized by Prep Baseball. These young athletes represent the next wave of talent, and events like Rising Stars prepare them for future evaluations and competition.
Event Overview
The day began with catchers completing their defensive workout on the practice infield, followed by pitchers throwing controlled bullpens, indoors. TrackMan technology captured critical data such as velocity, spin rate, and pitch movement. These sessions allowed the Prep Baseball scouting staff to evaluate both pitchers and catchers.
Defensive Workout
Infielders and outfielders participated in a defensive workout at their primary positions. The large indoor practice infield was perfect for the infielders to move and react to balls off the fungo. Outfielders were able to stretch their arms in area, showcasing carry and accuracy as they fielded through balls hit to them. Scouts recorded video, assessed performance, and collected data on arm strength.
Offensive Workout
During the offensive session, players took part in hitting drills within an open cage environment. This setup allowed the scouting staff to observe ball flight under game-like conditions. TrackMan was employed throughout the offensive evaluations to gather data on each ball put into play in fair territory.
Athletic Testing
Players also underwent a series of athletic tests. A laser-timed 30-yard sprint was conducted outdoors, while height, weight, and grip strength measurements were recorded during the offensive evaluations. Additional tests included various jump metrics, which provided insights into each player’s power and explosiveness.
Post-Event Analysis
Following the event, the Prep Baseball staff will conduct a thorough analysis of the collected data, including metrics, analytics, and player evaluations. Leaderboards highlighting key physical attributes will be published. Detailed scouting analysis will be shared through blogs, videos, and podcasts in the coming weeks.
