Recap: 2025 North Carolina Prep Baseball ProCase

On Sunday, February 9, 2025, Prep Baseball was on-site at Diamond Xtreme in Kernersville, NC, for the 2025 North Carolina Prep Baseball ProCase. This marked the seventh consecutive year that Diamond Xtreme hosted the event, providing an ideal venue for a preseason showcase of some of North Carolina's top baseball talent. The 2025 edition featured 30 players performing in front of an audience of more than 30 professional scouts.

Event Overview

The roster for the ProCase was meticulously curated by Prep Baseball scouts in collaboration with area scouts throughout North Carolina. This highly selective process ensured that professional scouts had the opportunity to evaluate players who are already on their radar or who should be considered for the 2025 and 2026 MLB Drafts. This year’s roster featured 11 pitchers and 20 position players.

The event was strategically scheduled to provide scouts with additional coverage opportunities, allowing them to attend college games, scrimmages, or workouts following the ProCase. The day began with pitchers and catchers, where catchers underwent defensive evaluations before receiving bullpens. Each pitcher then threw 15–20 pitches in front of the scouting contingent.

As the schedule transitioned to position players, athletic testing commenced using VALD Performance laser technology to measure 30-yard sprint times and 10-yard splits. Additionally, all participants underwent jump testing to assess lower-body explosiveness.

Following athletic testing, hitters participated in a live batting practice session inside Diamond Xtreme’s "big box" facility, providing scouts with a clear view of ball flight off the bat. Wood bats were used exclusively, with TrackMan technology capturing key ball flight data. Additionally, BLAST Motion sensors were affixed to each bat handle to collect swing metrics. The event concluded with defensive workouts for both infielders and outfielders.

Evan Myers LHP / OF / Lincoln Charter, NC / 2025

One of the big winners on the day. Elastic arm that has the hammer down as he cruises through his release. Electric arm speed.  At 6-foot, 168 pounds, it is easy to dream about the frame continuing to handle weight and strength gains in the coming years. Exellent three pitch feel.  Change-up with arm speed has late fade that should create swing and miss.  Gradual 1/7 tilt on the breaking ball with depth through the hitting zone.

Western Carolina commit

Justin Mabe RHP / OF / North Davidson, NC / 2025

Polished right hander that built on his ProCase performance from 2024. Excellent command and feel. Has a plan throughout the bullpen, showing an ability to attack different quadrants with his arsenal. Has a plan for the slider and curveball.  Fastball up to 90.7 with an average of 14.2in of arm side run. Curveball spin up to 2576rpm. Late, hard, biting tilt.  Depth over sweep.  Slider has heavy sweep, spinning at 2663rpm.  All three pitches tend to tunnel creating a tough effect on hitters.  High ceiling with athleticism and a fairly clean arm swing through release.

Big mover in the 2025 class through the fall and offseason.  Physical presence with broad shoulders, standing 6-foot-2, 182 pounds. Youthful with an expectation with the frame continuing to fill out in the coming years.  Solid mover. Loose hips.  Ball jumps when he works through his line.  Backside creates good leverage as the arm works with athleticism through an over-the-top slot.  Best max fastball at the event, peaking at 94.2mph, averaging 2353rpm. Hard downer action on the breaking ball, setup to get chase.  Slider has short, horizontal action with late burst in the hitting zone.

USC Upstate Commit

Athletic lefty repeats the delivery with a quick arm. Just scratching the surface of where the stuff may end up.  Fastball / change-up combo is ready to keep hitters off balance.  Slider has length. Slider set for more chase than in-zone swing and miss.  This will continue to develop over time. Fastball ranged 89.3 - 90.5 at 2297rpm. Solid run, late out of the hand.

Another late riser with a big arm. Broad shoulders and chest. Powerful stature. Stands 6-foot-1, 204 pounds. Loose hips. Easy strider. On-line. Long arm swing through an over-the-top slot with good acceleration through release. Fastball played true with average to above ride at 92.2mph.  Good breaking ball with late, hard downer action.  More chase type action but if paired with an elevated fastball it can create some freeze in the zone.  Used a knuckleball and splitter as his change-ups.  Different variants on each pitch, giving him 4 distinctive pitches.
