2025 Nebraska High School Team Previews: Volume I

Prep Baseball Nebraska strives to be the most comprehensive source of player information across the state. Prep Baseball is the number one resource for high school baseball in each state that we cover through various events, boots-on-the-ground scouting staff, daily coverage, and multimedia platforms. Our multimedia platforms and events work together, creating each state's most potent high school baseball promotion source. While other organizations take a national approach, our goal is to become the authoritative voice on the ground level of each state.

As we prepare for the upcoming 2025 high school season, we will be taking a preseason glimpse at programs from around the state.

LINCOLN EAST SPARTANS

Head Coach: Mychal Lanik (6 seasons, 132-21)

Coach's Comment:
"We are excited about the 2025 group at Lincoln East. Returning 6 starters should provide us with a really solid offensive and defensive ball club. A few younger players really ascended in the summer and the fight for opportunities in the lineup will be very competitive. We lost 93% of our innings from last spring, including a trio of left handers that went 23-1 with a 1.25 ERA. How our young pitching staff matures and settles in will determine the type of ceiling this team has."

SKUTT CATHOLIC SKY HAWKS

Head Coach: Damon Day (1 season, 14-12)

2024 Record: 14-12, District Runner-Up

"We are anchored by our ace, Jace Ziola, and a solid pitching staff that returns a ton of innings from last year's team, which pitched at a 3.12 ERA and averaged a K an inning. The offense looks to be improved, with some young players and new faces adding depth to a team that struggled to score runs in last year's second half of the season."

HASTINGS TIGERS

BUENA VISTA BISON

"We have everyone returning with a growing core that has been with us since the first year of the program in 2022-23. We have a good sized freshman class coming into the program this year and are excited to begin working them into the system. We had a lot of growth over the legion season last summer and look to be more competitive each game again this year."

CENTRAL CITY KERNELS

Head Coach: Brandon Detlefsen (6 seasons, 94-47)

"With 8 returning starters this season, we are looking to lean on our experience to guide us through the ups and downs that come along with the spring season. We will be fortunate to have several key arms both in our starting rotation and in our bullpen. This is a battle-tested group who has seen several postseasons, both in the spring and summer. This team will continue to work hard as they understand the importance of limiting outside distractions and influences."

"Last year, the first year under a new coach, was a new way of doing things here for the players at Adams Central. The student athletes bought into the new way of doing things and new style of play and really showed their toughness and willingness to work hard. They earned a sport in the state tournament and got a taste of what that was like. These guys are hungry for more and want to improve on their accomplishments from last year. Only graduating four seniors from last years roster really helps, as we have a ton of experience coming back from a team that broke/set over 50 percent of the school records last year. This is a very dangerous and disciplined group ready to prove something this spring."
