Super 60 Preview: Jeter Worthley, C, Lincoln East
February 1, 2025
As a catcher, Lincoln East's Jeter Worthley breaks the mold.
At the 2024 Prep Baseball Upper Midwest ProCase, Worthley had a tooled-up athletic performance, popping off a 6.79 60 time, the third-best in the event, and had a 34.6-inch vertical, the second-best. Described as "almost dynamic at times" by Prep Baseball Upper Midwest Supervisor Rob Allison, Worthley brings a rare level of athleticism behind the plate. "You just don't typically see that in guys behind the dish," Allison continued. "You're going to get strong guys, you're going to get physical guys… but ultra-quick, ultra-fast, can receive, block like crazy, really agile. He just brings something to the position that not a lot of guys do."
His invitation to the 2025 Super 60 this weekend will give him a national stage to showcase those tools.
That athleticism extends beyond catching. A two-year starting quarterback for Lincoln East, Worthley has the versatility to play second base or outfield and possesses an aggressive, high-IQ approach on the basepaths. "If he's on first, he's going to get to second. The way Lincoln East plays and how aggressive he is, he's going to get to second and probably third," noted Prep Baseball Nebraska's state director Pascal Paul. His speed and instincts make him one of the most dangerous runners in the state, where he swiped 18 bags for the Spartans in his junior year.
At the plate, Worthley is equally impactful. Able to generate above-average pop, as evidenced by his 99 MPH max exit velocity, his disciplined approach, and his ability to execute in key moments set him apart. He drew 13 walks to nine strikeouts last spring, leading to a robust .426/.504/.527 slash line. As the team's table-setter, he scored 42 runs, the fourth-most in the state. His ability to positively impact the game was one of the reasons he was selected as a first-team Prep Baseball Nebraska All-State player.
"I think Jeter contributes more to winning games for his team in the spring than almost anyone else in the state," Paul added. "He knows how to move runners, put the ball in play, and come through when it matters."
The power element of his offensive game is still developing. With near triple-digit exit velocity, Worthley's next steps would be to add more lift to his game to drive pitches deep into the gaps and beyond. His work ethic suggests it will be coming soon.
Worthley's future position remains an open question. With the elite tools and athleticism, in today's era of positionless baseball, that versatility is an asset, not a question mark. Regardless of where he ends up on the field, one thing is clear: Worthley will find a way to impact the game.
