Jason Hall RHP / OF / Mount Mansfield Unified School District, VT / 2025JERICHO, Vt. - A late start on recruitment was not a concern for Jason Hall. The 17-year-old felt no pressure being uncommitted halfway through his senior year of high school. “I’ve seen a lot of guys committing late that were talented,” Hall pointed out. “It was just about putting my foot on the peddle.” After all, it was just two years ago the idea of playing beyond high school even entered his mind. “Sophomore year I had a close friend that committed and that made me think about it,” the Mt. Mansfield senior reflected. “I didn’t become serious about it until this year, so I was kind of behind. I just emailed, emailed, emailed and DM’d, DM’d, DM’d.” There was additional assistance along the way. “I went to a few showcases and some college camps,” Hall noted. “I went to two Prep Baseball events and coaches saw videos from that.” St. Peter’s liked what they saw and a connection was made. “I was emailing college coaches to spread my name around and their head coach got back to me,” Hall explained. “I started an email conversation, we chatted a bit, and he invited me on a visit.” It was what Hall was looking for in a college. “I like how they’re remodeling the program,” Hall said. “They’ve got a bunch of new coaches and they’re great. I like the location of the school and the atmosphere.” St. Peter’s saw Hall a nice fit for the program. “They like that I’m a good judge of character and a good pitcher,” Hall pointed out. “They just like me for who I am.” Improvement proved valuable in a commitment with St. Peter’s being attained. “At the beginning of this year I was extra inconsistent throwing in the low-80s,” Hall related. “I dialed it in over the summer and now I’m up to the high-80s.” In addition to support from his parents, Hall credited pitching coach Dan French with assistance. “I used to straight arm the ball,” Hall said. “Now I reach more into my scapula and have gotten more flexible and I’m able to throw harder.” Admittedly, size has been a deterrent according to the Mt. Mansfield senior. “I feel I’ve been overlooked during my high school days,” Hall said. “I always heard I was too small and wasn’t going to be able to do it. That just fired me up to work harder. “You’ve got to outwork everyone else,” Hall added. “Never give up. The moment you give up you’ll let your dreams start to slip.” Living in Vermont added to the difficulty of getting recognition. “It’s hard to get seen,” admitted Hall. “There are travel teams, but for the most part the competition isn’t very good. You’ve got to get out of Vermont to get your name out there.” A 3.46 student with aspirations to major in criminal justice, Hall is confident of making an impact at the university located five hours from home. “I’ll bring good leadership and a winning mentality,” Hall said. “I’m someone who is fired up on the field to do whatever is needed to win the game.” A commitment to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference school was “a little surreal knowing your dream came true” according to Hall. “But there’s always more to be done,” Hall said. It brings a lot of excitement knowing the start of college is just eight months away. “The biggest thing I’m looking forward to is obviously baseball, but also the experience,” Hall concluded. “I feel I’m going to have a great time in a new environment while developing along the way.” |
