PJ Poulin, LHP, Tabor Academy, 2015

BACKGROUND

PJ Poulin is a left-handed pitcher who graduates in 2015 from Tabor Academy. He has chosen to take his high level talents to the University of Connecticut. At 6-foot, 180-pounds, Poulin has developed physically and on the mound, giving him a chance to pitch at the Division I level. In addition, he is a strong student who pushes himself in the classroom. Over the past few summers, he has pitched for a number of different teams including the New England Stampede, the East Coast Grays and the Mass Pride.

scouting report

His short build can fool an onlooker,  but he shows high level stuff.  His fastball has good action at 86-89 mph while showing flashes of pitching on both sides of the plate.

His off-speed pitches are advanced for his age with a breaking ball and slider both in the upper 70’s. Once he reaches the college ranks, he will have to chose one or the other based on his arm slot but that remains to be seen.

His change up, like most high school players, is too hard at 79-81, but if he continues to force himself to use the pitch, it could become advanced.

Keep an eye on this young man as talented left-handed pitchers are a hot commodity at all levels.
