Conor Moriarty, SS, West Springfield HS, 2016

BACKGROUND

Moriarty is a 2016 graduate from West Springfield High School. Standing at 5-foot-10, 170-pounds, he possess an athletic build and swings from the right side. He committed to the University of Connecticut over a number of northeast schools. He currently plays the middle of the field at shortstop but could move to a number of other positions due to his exceptional athleticism. He continues to develop his skills with the AP Royals in western Massachusetts. As well as being a terrific baseball player, he is an All-State soccer player.

SCOUTING REPORT

An exceptional overall athlete, Conor moves very well at shortstop. He shows above average range, good transfer and above average arm with carry. His feet are terrific and is the separator for him. HIs arm path is a bit long but he shows plenty of arm strength. His handle of the pivot is good and his footwork around the bag is advanced. At the plate, he has a simple set up. He has a short smooth stroke and works the barrel flat through the zone. He is a gap-to-gap hitter right now who will have to factor in the short game to be a complete player. He is a 6.8 runner, so you can imagine he would be a top of the order hitter (stage setter) and have the ability to steal some bases as he progresses in levels.
