Jackson Gillis, Wilmington, 2016

BACKGROUND

6-foot-2, 200-pound big physical build that is comparable to Carlos Rondon. His delivery is deliberate right now as he is conscious of the moving parts. With time, he should be able to smooth it out and pick up the tempo. Gillis is a very good athlete and fields his position well. He did show a live pickoff move and a slide step routine that is above average at this point.

SCOUTING REPORT

In a game late in the spring his fastball sat at 86-89 throughout and bumped up to 90 in the seventh inning. The fastball has very good life and downward plane. He certainly projects to be a power left-hander as he matures and grows. He throws a big breaking ball that was anywhere from 69-71. It does have the correct spin and tilt so that should jump with time. His changeup is a just a show me pitch right now, but he did display decent feel in the bullpen. His slot is slightly above ¾ and he does repeat his delivery.

Keep an eye on Gillis as he is a definite power left-handed pitcher that projects well at the next stage. Without a doubt, as he progresses he could be a high level prospect.
