Eastern PA Fall Review Analysis: Uncommitted Senior Pitchers & Two-Way Prospects

The Eastern PA Fall Review, the second in a series of three fall events that will culminate with the Invitation Only Elite Prospect Showcase on October 28, took place on September 23rd. Nearly 30 prospects from three states showcased their abilities at Widener University. Today we continue our analysis of the prospects in attendance at the Eastern PA Fall Review by taking a look at uncommitted Class of 2018 prospects that participated as pitchers and two-way prospects.

CLASS OF 2018 Pitchers & Two-way prospects

Len Asari, MIF/RHP, Cherry Hill East HS (NJ)
5-foot-7, 150-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride. Displayed a short swing path with above average rhythm and balance throughout. Barreled the baseball consistently with a bat exit velocity of 89 mph in batting practice and went 2-for-6 in game action while reaching base in four at bats. Showcased active feet and a soft glove hand defensively with accurate 74 mph arm strength across the diamond. Ran a 7.07 60-yard dash and sat 78-80 off the mound while also commanding a curveball at 68-69 with sharp 11/5 break. Well-rounded skill set will give Asari opportunities to get on the field early at the next level at a number of positions. 

Brett Flynn, OF/RHP, Randolph HS (NJ)
5-foot-8, 165-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a leg-hang stride to initiate his swing. Some barrel wrap in load leads to length in the swing with a flat plane through the hitting zone. Ball jumps off the barrel at times with a bat exit velocity of 81 mph. Ran an event best 6.82 60-yard dash and flashed athletic actions in the outfield with straight line carry on throws of 81 mph to home plate. Sat 77-80 from a 3/4 arm slot with a long arm motion. Fastball showed some cut action while curveball was commanded for strikes at 67-68 with 11/5 rotation.

Brian Janetka, RHP/3B, Souderton Area HS (PA)
6-foot-3, 205-pound primary pitcher impressed working three scoreless innings with five strikeouts while allowing just two hits, one of the infield variety. Sat 81-82 from a high 3/4 arm slot with some arm-side run to his fastball. Lon arm motion has more velocity to come as he works to increase tempo and concentrates on getting downhill. Also displayed solid command of a curveball at 72-74 with 11/5 rotation and a knuckle ball at 67-68. Ran a 7.63 60-yard dash and displayed accurate 79 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively. The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance an initiates his swing with a short, leg-hang stride. Tendency to pull bat head through hitting zone with some length to swing. Registered a 79 mph bat exit velocity.

Dawson Magar, RHP, Donegal HS (PA)
6-foot, 180-pound righty sat 82-84 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a deliberate, repeatable delivery. Also utilized a curveball at 69-71 with tight 11/5 rotation effectively during three innings of work. Allowed one unearned run on just one infield hit while striking out five. Additional work to increase tempo could lead to incremental gains in velocity moving forward.

Owen Morton, 3B/RHP, Pottstown HS (PA)
6-foot-2, 205-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a short stroke with a line drive approach while registering a bat exit velocity of 86 mph. Showcased athleticism running a 7.28 60-yard dash an flashed the ability to play through the baseball defensively with accurate 74 mph arm strength across the diamond. Sat 74-75 our of a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound. Showed a short arm stroke with an above average command of the strike zone. Also utilized a curveball at 62-63 with 11/5 rotation and a slider with shorter break at 66-68. Recorded five strikeouts in three innings of work.
