Director of Scouting, New Jersey

As we continue to shape-the-state here in New Jersey, several different unique features will be available on our website. Player Spotlights, Progress Reports, Scouting Blogs, Rankings and Top-Performer Lists, and so much more. Without the players we have nothing, so let’s take this a bit more personal - Get To Know: Our new article feature that hones in on what our Garden State players are up to, what makes them tick, and some real-candid inside access...

Name: Brad Dobzanski
High School: Delsea
Grad Year: 2017
State Rank: 1
Commitment: Kentucky

PBR: Let's start with your baseball commitment to Kentucky. Tell us about the process and how you decided on the Wildcats? How excited are you to play in the SEC?

Dobzanski: I received a ton of looks from big schools at the P.G. Tournament down in Georgia such as Kentucky, Louisville, Virginia. University of Kentucky gave me the best offer and I wanted to play in the SEC under their new coaching staff. I’m extremely excited to compete in the SEC, it’s arguably the best conference in the country and is loaded with top-of-the-line talent.

PBR: Baseball has an unbelievable way of positively shaping young man on and off the field. Tell us one life-lesson you have picked up over the years playing the game, and how that life-lesson may impact you later in life?

Dobzanski:  One life lesson I have picked up over the years is being competitive and giving maximum effort. This lesson will impact me later in life because it teaches you to take pride in everything you do and to do more than what is expected of you because it will lead you to success.

PBR:  If you were a baseball scout and just watched yourself play, what would that scouting report look like?

Dobzanski:  My scouting report would most likely be a fluent, lean, athletic pitcher who throws from a ¾ arm slot and is a strike-thrower.

PBR: We are knee-deep into the off-season schedule. Tell us about your training and spring preparation.

Dobzanski: My offseason consists of a lot of lifting and focusing on putting on lean muscle and weight, emphasizing on core and leg exercises. I started my throwing program in the beginning of January with my brother Bryan Dobzanski (29th Rd, Cardinals - 2014) and I'm slowly working my way up in order to peak during the spring season.

PBR:
If you could only pick one, who would be your biggest baseball influence and why?

Dobzanski: My biggest baseball influence is Clayton Kershaw. Not only does he perform with dominance consistently, but he holds himself accountable for how he performs even on his worst days. And I admire how he uses his fame and wealth to benefit others off the field.

PBR: List three goals for the upcoming 2017 season.

Dobzanski:
1. Win a State Championship for Delsea.
2. Be a leader and set an example for the younger players on the team.
3. Be consistent with my routine and performance on the mound.

PBR: Who is the best player you have played against in your high school career so far?

Dobzanski: The best player I have competed against in my high school career so far would have to be (2017 OF) Quentin Holmes (Mississippi St. recruit - No. 1 in NY) at the 2016 Summer Rivalry at Fenway Park.

PBR: Do you have any pregame superstitions?

Dobzanski: I have to wear the same undershirt every time I pitch, and I never step on the line.

PBR: What would be your best walk out song? (clean songs only, of course).

Dobzanski: "Can't Stop" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
