Updated 2021 Rankings

TJ Hunt
Director, PBR New Jersey

After almost two years since the last high school pitch was thrown, it's almost time to commence the 2021 spring season in New Jersey.

We are still a couple weeks away, but there's no better time than now to release our class by class New Jersey player rankings with "Rankings Week."

The first set of rankings will be with the current senior class, the class of 2021.

The Top 10

RANK  NAME STATE SCHOOL CLASS POS COMMITMENT
1 Chase Petty NJ Mainland 2021 RHP Florida
2 Anthony Solometo NJ Bishop Eustace 2021 LHP North Carolina
3 Pierce Coppola NJ Verona 2021 LHP Florida
4 Shane Panzini NJ Red Bank Catholic 2021 RHP Virginia
5 Mike Bello NJ Pope John XXIII 2021 OF Auburn
6 Aries Samek NJ Teaneck 2021 3B Clemson
7 Ian Petrutz NJ Bishop Eustace 2021 OF Maryland
8 Jack Findlay NJ Roxbury 2021 LHP Notre Dame
9 Justin Szestowicki NJ Kingsway 2021 SS North Carolina
10 Sean Hard NJ St. Joseph's Montvale 2021 RHP Boston College

No surprise at the top, with Petty, Solometo, Coppola, and Panzini in the top four. The first four players in these rankings are arguably the most talented crop of arms that the Garden State has ever seen. All four of these guys are legitimate draft options, and could be scooped up pretty high in the draft depending on their signabilitiy.

The lone newcomer to the top 10 is Boston College commit, RHP Sean Hard (St. Joseph's Montvale). Hard has a projectable 6-foot-5 frame with long, loose levers and a fastball up to 94-95. Expect Hard to be the anchor of a deep pitching staff at St. Joe's this year.

With the draft slated for mid-July and only being 20 rounds, I expect the bulk of the 2021 crop to make it on to campus. However, the first four in this group will certainly make it interesting come July. All told, it should be a very exciting spring season and I can speak for the entire high school  baseball community that we are all raring to go.
