GET TO KNOW: Matthew Ferrara

Tell us about the decision-making process for your commitment? How excited are you to play there?
Ferrara: It was pretty difficult it came down to the coaches and the relationship i’ve built with them and I didn’t get those relationships anywhere else, Really excited for what the future holds for me.
If you were a baseball scout and just watched yourself play, what would that scouting report look like?

Ferrara: A freaky athlete and hard nose kid who loves being on the field, Hit tool stands out a bunch hits for both average and power has a plan in the box doesn’t swing at balls knows the strike zone well , Really good mover/runner able to steal bags and take extra bases, Defensively able to stay at short stop tons of range, high IQ, strong arm, Starting to find his power and it keeps on getting better and better, tons of room to fill out, He will play the game for a long time.

We are knee-deep into the off-season schedule. Tell us about your training, and spring preparation.

Ferrara: Trying to get overall better but really have been focusing on my speed, arm strength and explosiveness, I hit, take ground balls and throw everyday and lift 3x a week and sprint 3x a week.

Name three goals for the upcoming season.

Ferrara: -To win County Tournament, Shore Tournament, and States, -To show off my full capabilities -Enjoy every moment of each day

Do you have any pregame superstitions?

Ferrara: I try not to believe in those when, they are just excuses for not succeeding

Who is the best player you have played against in your high school career so far? What makes that player so good?

Ferrara: Zach Crochfelt, left handed pitcher that was up to 96 this game, fastball ran a bunch with a whiteout slider.

Who would you say your baseball role model is? Why?

Ferrara: Derek Jeter, looked up to him my whole life inspired by his leadership and hit tool.
