GET TO KNOW: Zach Geertsma

Tell us about the decision-making process for your commitment? How excited are you to play there?

The decision-making process was very stressful and challenging, but what helped me the most was visiting all the schools that were interested in me. When I visited UVA for the first time I really loved the campus, coaches, and baseball facility. I am extremely exited to play there and the next year and a half will feel like forever.

If you were a baseball scout and just watched yourself play, what would that scouting report look like?

Athletic frame with good pull side pop. Quick hands in the infield with a strong arm.

We are knee-deep into the off-season schedule. Tell us about your training, and spring preparation.

Lifting and getting faster 6 days a week with one off day. Tracking my calories and drinking enough water so I can stay healthy and continue to get bigger. Hitting in the cages and fielding ground balls so I can stay consistent year round.

Name three goals for the upcoming season.

State championship, 10+ HR, .450 batting average

Do you have any pregame superstitions?

Backwards hat walking up to the field.

Who is the best player you have played against in your high school career so far?

Ryan Jaros because he struck fear into our pitchers eyes causing them to pitch him balls.

Who would you say your baseball role model is? Why?

Volpe because I want to be better then him and one day be known as the better Jersey kid.
