Texas JUCO Week 4 Recap

Another week is in the books for JUCO baseball in the state of Texas. This week saw 8 teams have undefeated weeks: #1 San Jac (3-0), #3 Cisco (5-0),  #4 McLennan (3-0), #5 Grayson (3-0), #8 Panola (4-0), #15 Eastfield (4-0), #25 North Central (3-0), UR Paris (3-0). Here is a look into four of those weeks, along with the Hitter and Pitcher of the Week.



#1 San Jac (3-0)

San Jac played three games against 2018 JUCO World Series opponent Monroe College (NY). Starting in game one, the hero was SO OF Andrew Papantonio (Houston) who singled in the bottom of the 9th to score SO OF Tyriece Silas (Texas State). Game two was dominated by pitcher FR LHP Mitchell Parker  who started off the game going 6 strong innings striking out 14. Coming out fo finish the game in the s7th was SO RHP Zach Deleon (UTSA) to close out the game who struck out 2 to finish off the combined No-Hitter. In game three was a lot like game two, dominated by pitching. SO RHP Dane Acker (Oklahoma) went 5 strong innings allowing just 1 hit with no walks and 6 strikeouts.


#4 McLennan (3-0)

The Highlanders swept their series with #10 Navarro. They outscored the Bulldogs 23-10. In game one it was SO OF Thomas Santos (uncommitted) leading the way at the plate going 2-5 with a home run and 2 RBI. In game 2 SO RHP Alex Deleon (uncommitted) was lights out on the mound. Pitching a complete game while striking out 8 while only allowing 1 hit.


#12 Blinn (6-0)

Blinn had the biggest week out of any team in the state. They swept #2 Howard, took two from #13 Coastal Bend, along with a win over #11 Ranger. One of the biggest parts to there week was FR RHP John Chomko, who had 2 wins, 9 ⅔ IP, striking out 10, and going 6 shutout innings against #13 Coastal Bend. At the plate this week two guys had big weeks for the Bucs,FR INF Westley Schields who hit 429, with 1 home run. The other was SO OF Alec Sanchez (uncommitted) who hit .389 with 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run, and 6 RBI.


#14 Eastfield (4-0)

The Harvesters finally got back on the field this past week after taking 10 days off due to weather. They played Kansas City Kansas and got the sweep outscoring them 24-14. In game one they won by one with help form FR 1B Keylon Mack who was 1-2 with 2 RBI on the day. In game 2, FR RHP Ryan Pyear pitched a Complete game shut out, striking out 10 while only walking 2. Game 3 was dominated by FR OF Travarus Ashley who ha 2 doubles with 2 RBI to go with scoring 1 himself.




Player of the Week-


Hitter

Sophomore OF/C Nick DeNicola (Oklahoma State)-Paris

DeNicola's week was one of the big reasons for the Dragons success. Hitting .555 with a .750 OBP, and a 1.556 Slugging. Along with hitting 3 home runs, with 9 RBI to go with 4 walks.


Pitcher

Freshman LHP Mitchell Parker- San Jac

Parker had a huge game as stated above. Throwing the first half of a combined no-hitter. Striking out 14 in just 6 innings of work.
