Bases Loaded Elite Recap

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

The Bases Loaded Elite Scout Day featured a quality group of prospects, highlighted by standout performances by Xander Hernandez and JonLuke Hobdy. These uncommitted 2021 prospects were joined by 2021 C/P, Garren Gledhill, an ambidextrous thrower who showed one of the most impressive rounds of batting practice and 2022 1B/P, Nicolo Guevara, a 6-foot-2, 190 pound prospect that sat low 80's on the mound, topping out at 84 mph with a potential plus breaking ball. The lone freshman to attend the Scout Day, Cimarron-Memorial's Chase Duvall, produced a line drive filled batting practice session with a balanced, simple swing and above average barrel awareness. Duval might not be a prospect that jumps off the page at you with tools or physicality, but he comes with high praise from Bases Loaded's Craig Colletti as a player that continues to swing it at each event they attend and will be a prospect to keep an eye on in the coming years.

Xander Hernandez, a 6-foot-1 uncommitted infielder out of Liberty High School, showcased impressive actions both at the plate and in the field that has him as potential helium guy when the updated PBR Nevada Player Rankings are updated. Hernandez starts in an athletic, slightly opened set up with a shoulder high hand rhythm, leading into a coiled load with a medium-high leg kick that when it got down on time he barreled the ball consistency which helped him earn the highest Exit Velocity of the day at 89 mph. Defensively, he showed clean actions through the fielding process with proper glove presentation on the forehand, backhand and straight up ground balls.

Small school prospect, JonLuke Hobdy, has made significant strides over the past few month seemingly in each part of his game. He possesses excellent hand speed at the plate with a wide based set up and a repeated stroke that produced loud line drives to the big part of the yard. A 4.13 Laser Timed home to first time had Hobdy at the top of the leaderboard in the speed department only behind teammate, Ryan Watkins. Defensively, he possesses fluid actions in the infield with some raw features the could still be cleaned up, but the athleticism and footwork is there. I am looking forward to watching him continue to progress over the coming months and see where he stacks up at the next Bases Loaded Elite Scout Day set to take place in January.

2024-2025 RISING STARS SHOWCASE

The PBR Nevada Rising Stars Showcase is coming Tuesday, July 7th to Las Vegas Sports Park. The event is open to Class of 2024 & 2025 Prospects.

This event will have four main functions. For most participants, this will be their first showcase event - an initial step toward achieving a player’s baseball goals. Part of this event is educational. There will be a lecture about what scouts look for, how to comport themselves, what to expect in the recruiting process, and the overall landscape of playing at the next level. The second function of this event will be for players to create baseline numbers for themselves to improve. The third reason for this event is for PBR to have an in-depth look at the best young players and the future of the state.  The fourth function of the event is to identify players to represent Nevada at the PBR Junior Future Games held at LakePoint in Cartersville, GA.

PBR Junior Future Games Selection Process

The Junior Future Games Trials will be used to identify players to represent Nevada at the 2020 PBR Junior Future Games at LakePoint. The PBR Junior Future Games is national event that will take place July 29 - August 1 at LakePoint in Emerson, Georgia. The event will run in accordance with the PBR Future Games, which attracts over 300 college coaches from across the country.

The 2020 Junior Future Games will feature the best 2024 & 2025 prospects in the country. Players will participate in a pro-style workout and game-play during the duration of the event.
