GBG Vegas Scout Day: Quick Hits

The GBG Vegas Scout Day featured a number of prospects with present and projectable actions highlighted by Long Beach State commit, Ty Coombs', impressive three pitch mix on the mound. GBG Vegas has been one of the top programs in player development since their conception with no signs of slowing down. During the GBG Vegas Scout Day, we were able to update and populate each players profile with new metrics including a Laser Time 60 Yard Dash, Raw Exit Velocity, Videoed Batting Practice, Catcher Pop Time/Velocity, Outfield Velocity, Infield Velocity and Pitcher Bullpens. 

Today, we dive into some of the events standouts with Quick Hits from Saturday's event.

Ty Coombs - 2022 / Arbor View / Long Beach State commit

Coombs came in to the GBG Scout Day as the only committed prospect and the 2022 prospect proved exactly why he has already been taken off the market. The 6-foot-5 right hander has a live, loose staying mostly tall throughout his delivery to create downhill action on each of his pitches. His four seam fastball sat 86-87 mph while topping out at 88 mph and was complemented by two secondary pitches in a 12/6 curveball that flashes sharp vertical break at 72-76 mph and a splitter that he showed advanced feel for with his ability to located down in the zone at 74-76 mph. The Arbor View product made quite the impression on the PBR Nevada staff with his impressive three pitch mix that has been working effectively all summer.

Ty Silva - 2023 / Shadow Ridge / Uncommitted

Silva is beginning to rack up quality performances at Prep Baseball Report events after his standout day at the recent Nevada Top Prospect. The athletic 2023 outfielder projects to be a highly sought after prospect with his present tools that project to continue improving as he add strength and size to his 6-foot-1 frame. During his batting practice round, he showcases his pull side power potential with the ability to drive the ball to both gaps. He comes out of a budding Shadow Ridge program that has a roster of promising young talent with Silva leading the way.

Nick Calleo - 2021 / Palo Verde / Uncommitted

Calleo produced the top batting practice round of the day with line drives to the big part of the yard with some present pull side power. The 2021 Palo Verde product has an efficient bat path with strength his hands through extension staying balanced in his wide set up. The simplicity of his swing allowed him to find the barrel throughout his loud round. Defensively, he showcased smooth actions through the ball with his preset foot speed and arm strength to keep him at third base. Calleo is a solid middle of the order bat that can hold down a corner infield position at the next level.

Will Zadrowski - 2021 / Cimarron-Memorial / Uncommitted

Will Zadrowski had an excellent Scout Day with a 1.95 Pop Time, throws were all around the bag, batting practice round was filled with line drives, but the most impressive stat he possesses is his 5.1 GPA. The Valedictorian candidate has a the grades to grades to get into any school in the country, but he wanted to play baseball. The Cimarron-Memorial product has significantly improved his receiving skills behind the dish over the past few month with additional strength in his forearms and hands. His stroke at the plate has also seen improvement, starting mostly upright with a quiet stride followed by a compact, line drive producing swing.
