Game 3 vs. Arizona: Recap

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

Game 3 vs. a stack Arizona group didn’t see a run cross home plate until the sixth inning when they put up a three spot and late surge by Team Nevada came up just short in the final game of the Future Games. The two-way players had their time to shine with a scoreless effort by Cooper Sheff who started on the bump, followed by 2022’s Luke Metzker and Chase Ditmar, then by 2023 Dominick Rush before Arizona was able to break through against 2023 Gunnar Myro. A hit filled sixth by Arizona put Nevada in a three run deficit going into the bottom half of the inning where Cooper Sheff came up clutch with a huge double down the right field line, bringing in two Nevada base runners to shrink the lead to one. After an efficient, scoreless inning on the mound by 2022, Parker Vint, 2022 Joey Randazzo got the inning started with a single to right field, but the last ditch effort came up short with Arizona sealing the 3-2* victory.

Team Nevada produced a number of quality at bats with hard hit balls by Tai Nguyen and Jet Gilliam that never found the turf. Gilliam was defensively standout all weekend and was finally able to settle in at the plate during Game 3 vs. Arizona, squaring up two balls that were tracked down by the Arizona outfielders.

After a quality performance on the mound that included two scoreless inning of work with two strikeouts and holding hitters to a .200 batting average, Sheff clutches up with a two RBI double down the right field line that sparked late comeback effort for Team Nevada
