GAME RECAP

BASIC ACADEMY (10) - PALO VERDE (4)

This matchup was set to be a tight battle with two UNLV signees in Palo Verde’s Reese Lueck and Basic’s Chase Ditmar taking the bump for each senior lead team. Both arms cruised through the first two innings combining for five strikeouts while missing barrels to induce weak contact as they both made their way though the lineup for the first time. The top of the third is when the offenses got settled in as the Southisene brothers, Ty (#1 ranked 2024) and Tate (#3 ranked 2025), jumpstarted the Basic offense with back to back line drive single that helped the Wolves take an early 1-0 lead. In the bottom half, Uncommitted 2022 IF, Jackson Tanko, got things started with a drag bunt then scoring shortly after on 2022 OF/LHP, Kaiden Smaka’s RBI single to centerfield, bringing in a Tanko to square it up at 1-1 after 3 complete. In the 5th, Basic loaded the bases with 2023 IF/RHP and Oregon Commit, Cooper Sheff, keeping his hands inside an elevated fastball and doubling past a diving centerfielder to bring in all three runs, making it 4-1 then scoring himself shortly after to make it 5-1 heading into the bottom of the 5th. A lead off walk by 2025 1B/LHP, Tanner Johns, sparks another comeback attempt from the Panthers as they load the bases themselves with Smaka coming up clutch again with another single that brought in two to cut into the Basic lead, eventually bringing across one more to make it 5-4 after 5 complete. In the 6th, the Wolves load the bases again with three hitter, Ditmar, helping out his own cause by tripling off the right field wall to bring in all three runs to extend the lead, only to be outdone by 2022 OF/LHP and Arkansas Signee, Mason Neville, going big fly on a 1-1 belt high fastball, putting them up 10-4 after a loud half inning. The Wolves struck out the side in the bottom of the 6th with a scoreless 7th to follow, securing the win.
