Liberty Scout Day Recap

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

The Liberty Scout Day featured a wealth of Underclass talent that will have the Patriots set for deep runs into the playoffs for years to come. The 2022 and 2023 prospects in attendance were able to put their name on the map in their respective classes while the 2020 and 2021 athletes were able to solidify their names as legitimate prospects after their performances.

Uncommitted 2021 LHP, Ryan Towers, son of former Big League, Josh Towers, is a polished arm with a low effort, clean delivery from a high ¾ arm slot with a three-pitch mix that included a fastball with arm side run that sat at 80 mph with seemingly more in the tank, a changeup that had sink and fade and a 11/5 curveball that he located at the knees throughout his bullpen. Uncommitted 2020 RHP, Cole Steffanich, is an arm that continues to show improvement even from his outing as recent as this past summer with his fastball now up to 84 mph, a heavy changeup that lives down in the zone and a curveball that has tightened up into a late action barrel misser.

Uncommitted 2022 IF/RHP, Keoni Young, is a two-way prospect that flashed power to the pull side backed up by an event best 89 mph Exit Velocity with more to come as he continues to gain strength and size. The stocky, strong lower half build prospect moves well to both the forehand and backhand side with smooth actions in the infield and an ability to throw from different arm slots. He carried that ability onto the mound with five different pitches that he threw ranging from the high ¾ arm slot to the low ¾ arm slot. Uncommitted 2023 C/IF, Lauren Binney, lived in the middle of the yard during his batting practice session showing excellent barrel awareness as he consistently barreled up pitch after pitch and then went on to earn an event best 2.02 Pop Time, ranking him second in the state for the 2023 Class. Uncommitted 2023 OF/RHP, Dominick Rush, made his presence known with a batting practice round that flashed some gap to gap power with more to come as he continues to mature, following it up with an accurate 83 mph Outfield Velocity and finishing on the bump with a three-pitch mix with a fastball up to 82 mph and feel for his secondary pitches.
