PBR Nevada presents The Bishop Gorman Outfield

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

As the Spring Season quickly approaches we take a look back at the impressive preseason efforts put together by a handful of teams throughout Nevada, and one thing became very clear. The Bishop Gorman outfield is going to be something to watch this year; holding there own, and then some, against some of the top programs throughout the West Region. Each player attend the inaugural PBR Nevada ProCase where each of them posted a 6.50 Laser Timed 60 or better, and that speed is used to amplify each part of their games. Arizona recruit and Nevada's #1 ranked 2021, Tyler Whitaker, has continued to solidify and separate himself as THE guy coming out of Nevada in the 2021 Class with five tool potential that has drawn a ton of buzz. Leadoff hitter and UNLV signee, Santino Panaro, has quietly become general for Gaels' outfield with a Top 100 Ranked Player while continuing to prove himself on a national scale after a huge summer for national powerhouse program, CBA (California Baseball Academy). And last, but certainly not least, Nevada's #1 ranked 2022 and #29 Nationally, Justin Crawford, completes the elite trio. His present tools and ability on the field rank him among the best players in the country, but the projectability is what makes the son of four time MLB All-Star, Carl Crawford, such an intriguing player with his lean stature, elite speed and baseball IQ, t makes you ask the question, "How much more is there?" This group has drawn national attention from Prep Baseball Report's National Crosschecker, Shooter Hunt, and National Supervisor, Nathan Rode, who have also labeled them, The Best Outfield in the Country.

"The speed alone makes them the best outfield in the country. I bet they’ve thought about throwing just two of them out there and adding an infielder because they’re that good. Those are 3 centerfield candidates and there is ZERO chance a triple is ever being hit. Whit has big tools and is the guy. Everything he does is dynamic and he combines speed and power to be a potential 5-tool guy. Then you have Crawford who obviously blazes and is just starting to fill out, so you can envision him exploding into a Day 1 guy next year with some more strength. He’s not as famous as the other two, but there’s a reason Panaro is in center: he’s the guy. He can really track and isn’t afraid to go get it. He’s a winner  who has quick hands at the plate with some sneaky pull side power" - PBR National Crosschecker, Shooter Hunt

"Bishop Gorman has a long track record of producing high-level prospects. They don't rebuild. They reload. You'd be hard pressed to find a high school outfield better than this one and with their speed, I'm not sure how many balls will actually touch the grass." - National Supervisor, Nathan Rode

"This is by far one of the best outfield I have ever coached, definitely the fastest which takes away a lot of hits from the opposing team. Not because they are my guys but if you ask around with coaches and scouts they will say they are one of the best outfields in the country. They are the heart of our team. They all lead by example, they are my 1,2,3 in our batting order. And to have that kind of speed with your first 3 hitters is really special. A lot of things that you can do on the bases with that." Bishop Gorman Head Coach, Gino DiMaria
