PBR Player Rankings: 2023 Class

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

As we quickly approach the Spring Season, the PBR Nevada staff has updated the 2023 Class Rankings. We continue our coverage of the 2023 class with a Top 75 rankings list that will continue to group with the next update coming at the beginning of Summer. We are eager to continue following and reporting the development of the group with our "boots on the ground" mentality, committed to providing the most credible and up-to-date information for all things amateur baseball in the Silver State. Players in Nevada are evaluated by PBR Staff at high school and games, tournaments around the Valley, showcases/events, as well as our PBR Showcases. Evaluations are not limited to just PBR Staff, we often are in touch with college recruiters, pro scouts, and local high school and club coaches. All player recommendations are taken into consideration, and all lists are subject to change as we continue to be "hyper local" while delivering a national presence for all things Nevada.

If you feel you deserve to be on this list or positioned differently, feel free to tag us on social media with highlights/game film. Those videos will be seen, and we aim to always be accurate in our reporting. Events through the summer and fall will also be held, where you can get in front of PBR Staff so we can get to know more about you. These lists are constantly changing as players continue to develop, and we promise that we will never stop being out and evaluating.

PBR PLAYER RANKINGS: 2023 CLASS

Gunnar Myro 3B / RHP / Bishop Gorman, NV / 2023

The future Rebel takes over the #1 spot in Nevada's 2023 Class after a huge sophomore campaign, hitting .477 with five homeruns leading right into a his standout performance at the 2021 Future Games. The corner infielder is expected to play a major role at the top of the Gorman lineup this Spring with his ability to hit for both power and average. Myro will also have a presence on the mound as reliever with his fastball ranging in the upper 80's and a breaking ball that he can snap off with conviction for strikes. The Gaels are projected to make a deep run this Spring and Myro will play a vital role in making that happen.

Zane Kelly OF / LHP / Faith lutheran, NV / 2023

The two-way San Diego State commit has proven his ability to hold down a premium position in centerfield, be a top of the order type bat and command the zone from the left side with his trio of pitches that includes a fastball that bumped 90 in the Fall. Kelly is a key part of the rising Faith Lutheran program that has had its sites set on this 2023 Class as the one to change the perception and culture the precedes them. Expect this future Aztec to have a big year for the Crusaders with the power numbers projected to continue trending with his additional strength and size he has put on in recent months.

Jet Gilliam OF / 2B / Desert Oasis , NV / 2023

Gilliam has surged up the 2023 Class Rankings, coming in at the #3 spot with his present athleticism and wiry strength helping amplify each part of his game. The PBR Nevada ProCase standout register a PBR Verified 6.66 Laser Timed 60 leading the event, then he produced one of the top batting practice rounds of the ProCase with a 95.1 mph TrackMan Exit Velocity, leaving the yard multiple times. The ability to hit for average and the power now coming through to all fields puts Gilliam right up among the best bats not only in the 2023 Class, but in the state, regardless of Class. This projects to be Gilliam's breakout Spring after having to sit out last year, due to the NIAA transfer rule, so keep Gilliam on your radar.

Kamdyn Perry RHP / 1B / Bishop Gorman, NV / 2023

The 6-foot-3, 200 pound right hander out of Bishop Gorman has shown time and time again that he can hang with the top arms in the state. With his fastball now consistently in the 90 mph range, he mixes in his breaking ball that has shown some late bite, but has yet to reach its potential and his developing changeup has flashed potential plus capabilities coming out on a similar plane to his fastball with the looseness in his arm that helps generate natural heaviness. Perry is going to be significant piece of the Gaels rotation this Spring that is expect to carry them to a deep playoff run.

Leighton Mercurius OF / RHP / Faith Lutheran, NV / 2023

The most recent commit in the 2023 Class, Mercurius is set to join Myro at UNLV after his prep career concludes. Though he won't be able to play this Spring because of his transferring to Faith Lutheran, he could still be argued as one of the top arms in the state with the athleticism and arm speed that leads you to believe that their is much more there. In his most recent outing, he sat 90-91 mph with life while showing consistent improvements in his secondary mix, that includes a curveball and changeup. Mercurius has been an intriguing arm since his breakout performance at the 2020 Future Games and he seems to only be scratching the surface of what the final product could be in the years to come.

Brandon Swanson 3B / 1B / Faith Lutheran , NV / 2023

The highest riser in the 2023 Class Rankings update, making him the top Uncommitted prospect in the state as Swanson has steadily proven himself to be one of the top bats in the state, not only being able to hit for average, but with consistent power to both gaps. The physical transformation that the Faith Lutheran product has gone through over the past year has directly correlated with the progress we have seen in his game. Don't be surprised if Swanson continues to make his way up the rankings over the next year as he seems to just be getting started and this Spring projects to be his breakout campaign.

Anthony Marnell IV C / OF / Bishop Gorman, NV / 2023

The future Oregon State Beaver remains among the states top backstops with his recently added physical strength in his lower have expected to help him have his breakout offensive performance this Spring. At the recent, Southern Nevada Preseason ID, Marnell showed off the improvements to his build and that mirrored his performances with flashes of power from both sides of the plate, that happened to be overshadowed by his performance being the plate where he put himself in the Top 3 in the Nation in both Catcher Velocity at 81 mph and Pop Time at 1.88. Don't be surprised if he is the leader in thrown out baserunners at the conclusion of this Spring.

Ty Silva OF / OF / Shadow Ridge, NV / 2023

After a wildly successful Summer Season with GBG Vegas, Silva earn All Future Games honors at the 2021 Future Games (the first Nevada prospect to ever do so) then committed to the University of Washington in the Fall. Another big bat in the 2023 Class, he has proven his pull side power with more expected to come as he continues to fill out his 6-foot-1 frame. He is going to be a vital piece for Shadow Ridge this Spring and their goal to raise the 4A NIAA State Championship trophy.

Cooper Sheff SS / RHP / Basic Academy, NV / 2023

The high IQ, Oregon commit comes off of a successful sophomore campaign helping lead Basic to the 2021 PBR Nevada State Championship and the goal is no different for Sheff in the 2022 Season. A true two-way threat with an ability to spot up and spin it on the mound to go with his confident actions at the plate and the ability to use all fields. Now as a junior, his role is expect to increase as one of the key prospects in the Wolves lineup. Keep Sheff on your radar as a player that could make a massive jump this upcoming season.

Callan Scolari RHP / OF / Bishop Manogue, NV / 2023

The University of San Diego commit joins the Top 10 in the 2023 Rankings Update after consistently stacking up quality start after quality start for Bishop Manogue during the Summer, Fall and preseason. A Team Nevada member at the 2021 Future Games, the Miner strung together an impressive three inning performance after getting rained out of his scheduled start the day before. Consistently cruising in the upper 80's as we head into to the Spring, don't be surprised if Scolari bumps the 90 mph mark to go with his curveball that has shown late, tight actions and his fading changeup that works to speed up his fastball. After a run to the 2021 PBR Nevada State Championships this past season, Cal and the Miners have their sites set on the ultimate prize in 2022.
