FAITH LUTHERAN (3) - BISHOP GORMAN (2)

This Top 10 matchup had all the makings of being a slugfest with potent bats making up each teams lineup. We got just the opposite with exceptional pitching performances by both starters, UNLV Signee, Tyler Avery, and Faith Lutheran's Uncommitted RHP, Will Case. After allowing a run in the first from an RBI single from Uncommitted 2023 MIF, George Holt, Avery seems to settle in until the 5th, where the inning got started off by one of Nevada's top Uncommitted 2023 bats, Brandon Swanson, turning on an inside fastball down the line that sparked the dugout in their come back effort as fellow Uncommitted 2023 1B/LHP, Miller Durham, step to the plate a launch a massive two-run homerun that put the Crusaders ahead 3-2, earning him Player of the Game honors. Faith Lutheran's Case put together a huge effort on the mound, keeping the Gaels bats at bay through his 5.0 innings pitched, striking out 3, allowing only 2 earned and 3 total hits. Case achieved a feat that few have been able to this Spring and has put himself among those 2022 arms that can compete at the next level, missing barrels with his mostly fastball/breaking ball mix. Gorman had their chances throughout the game, taking the lead in the bottom of the 3rd on an 2 RBI single to right field that brought in two to give the Gaels the temporary lead. Top Uncommitted 2024, Riske has solidified himself as not only one of the top bats in the stacked Gorman lineup, but as one of the top bats in the state regardless of class with confident, rangy actions on the defensive side to go with it. This was a big win for Faith Lutheran both as a program and in the playoff standings as we wind down the regular season and ramp up the post season in the coming weeks. The Crusaders are one of the hottest teams out right now, taking down the #3 ranked Basic Wolves last week and now the #1 ranked Bishop Gorman Gaels this week. This is a team that could make some serious noise in the middle of May with talented depth on the mound and a lineup that seems to be putting it together at the right time with clutch at-bats coming from the heart of the order.
