POW - Week 5

Buddy Gouldsmith
Nevada Scouting Director

This past week PBR Nevada witnessed many outstanding performances.  This week’s selections were most challenging.  We applaud all those outstanding efforts as we are officially over half way through the regular season. Below are this week’s Player/Pitcher of the Week honors

Northern Nevada

PBR Nevada would like to recognize the Northern Nevada Pitcher and Player of the week from Spanish Springs High School, '19 Connor Culp.  The UNLV commit, Culp assisted his team to a 3-0 record on the week after being idle during the previous week due to spring break.  He went 7 for 10 with 4 doubles, two homeruns and 8 RBI. On the mound, Culp toed the rubber against the Bishop Manogue Miners last Saturday and threw 6 innings before giving way to relief. When the reliever struggled, Culp returned to the mound to record the final two outs, thus earning the win and the save. He threw 6.2 innings total, allowing 3 runs, walking 1 and striking out 9.

Southern Nevada

Centennial’s, '19 Austin Kryszczuk (OF) shares the Player of the Week honors for Southern Nevada with The Meadow's '19 Sam Kaplan (3B/RHP).  A UNLV commit, Kryszczuk was 10 for 14 at the plate, scoring 7 runs.  He had a double, triple, and 2 HRs with 10 RBI. He aided the Bulldogs to a 4-1 record this past week, competing in the Bishop Gorman Desert Classic. Kaplan, a Cornell commit, went 10 for scoring 10 runs 4 2B’s, 2 3B’s, 2 HR’s, 11 RBI, and 5 SB’s.  Kaplan is a big reason for the Mustangs 14-3 start to the 2019 campaign.

Southern Nevada has Co-Pitchers of the Week to recognize.  First, '19 Mason Rhiner (RHP-Shadow Ridge) threw a 5-inning perfect game versus El Dorado. In the game shortened by the run rule, he struck out 7.  This feat in most week’s would carry the award alone; however, Legacy high school, right hander, '21 Justin Lamantia (RHP/OF) went the distance in an 11 inning affair.  Lamantia allowed just one run in the complete game effort, striking out six.  He faced six over the limit, throwing 74 strikes to 29 balls.  PBR Nevada recognizes both of these outstanding performances.

For these exceptional performances all week long we congratulate Connor Culp (Spanish Springs), Austin Kryszczuk (Centennial), Sam Kaplan (The Meadows), Mason Rhiner (Shadow Ridge), and Justin Lamantia (Legacy), the Prep Baseball Report Nevada Players of the Week for April 1-7.
