Upperclass Top Prospect Games: Outfield Analysis

The Upperclass Top Prospect Games featured some of the top prospects in the 2022 and 2023 classes with a majority of them still Uncommitted. The event consisted of a Pro-Style Workout that included a Laser Timed 60 Yard Dash, Batting Practice tracked by Blast Motion and Trackman, Catcher Evaluations, Outfield Evaluations, Infield Evaluations with the Pitcher Evaluations taking place during the Simulated Game on Day 2 of the event with the help of TrackMan. The event was designed highlighted each players abilities using the most advanced technology in the game with complete player reports coming from all the information collected in the Driveline Player Report. Following a Prep Baseball Report event, players received unrivaled access to their advanced ball-tracking and swing metrics through the TrackMan and Blast Connect apps as well as the players metrics snapshot uploaded directly to their PBR Player Profiles.

We continue our breakdown of the event with the Outfield Analysis with Scouting Reports unique to each player who attended the Upperclass Top Prospect Games.

Outfield ANALYSIS

Brett Matson 2B / OF / Liberty , NV / 2022

Body: 5-foot-11, 160 pounds.
Defense: OF. Athletic, aggressive actions through the ball. Feet work to get him on line. Works into a quick shuffle to throw. Can hold down a premium position in CF. IF. Clean, advanced actions. Plays with bounce. Smoothness in the footwork to get through the ball. Presents glove well. Footspeed allows for plus range to both sides. Comfort in the backhand play. Should be able to stay on the left side of the IF at the next level.
Arm: RH. OF - 88 mph. IF - 90 mph. Quick, short arm cycle. Accurate with AA carry.
Hit: SH. LH - Easy rhythm and flow, medium leg kick that gets down on time. Compact stroke. Some uphill through the zone. Flashes power potential, especially to the pull side. RH - Athletic set up. Simple rock back into his load, pick up/put down stride. Short to the ball with some lift through the zone. Flashes of rotational type swing. Line drive producer when he stays through the ball. Top of the order type.

Aiden Pollock OF / RHP / Bishop Gorman , NV / 2023

Body: 5-foot-11, 155 pounds.
Defense: OF. Athletic, confident actions. Clean, fluid routes to and through the ball. Feet work well to get him on line. Excellent first step. CF type.
Arm: RH. 87 mph. Quick, loose arm. Carry with some accuracy.
Hit: RH. Athletic, open set up. Medium, hanging leg kick that gets down on time. Coil type load. Level swing path with lift through extension. Line drive producer when on time. Flashes of power potential, especially to the pull side.

Kaiden Smaka LHP / OF / Palo Verde, NV / 2022

Mason McCormack OF / RHP / Coronado, NV / 2022

Body: 6-foot-0, 160 pounds.
Defense: OF. Aggressive routes to the ball. Controlled through field and throw. Athleticism shines through defensively. Showed his ability to hold down CF, could transition to a corner spot at the next level.
Arm: RH. 84 mph. Quick, loose arm. On line throws.
Hit: RH. Spread, athletic set up. Quiet stride into separation. Efficient to the ball. Bath stays on plane with some lift through extension. High one handed finished. Flashed some pull side power potential. Lived in the big part of the yard. Line drive producer. Top of the order type bat.
Power: 92.16 mph Exit Velocity via TrackMan.

Alec Vincent C / OF / Palo Verde, NV / 2022

Body: 5-foot-10, 200 pounds.
Defense: C - 1.91 Pop Time. Physical strength is used well behind the plate. Quality receiver with the ability to stick the pitch down in the zone. Some quickness in the feet with a shoulder high transfer on his throw downs. Projects to stay behind the plate at hte next level. OF - Athletic, controlled actions in his approach. Midsection exchange into a simple shuffle/throw. Corner OF type.
Arm: RH. C - 79 mph. OF - 84 mph. Compact arm cycle. Gets the ball out quickly.
Hit: RH. Spread, tall set up. Simple rock back load with hand rhythm timing. Minimal pick up/put down stride. Short to the ball with impressive hand speed. Some lift through the zone. Consistent barrels throughout his round. Flashes his present power to the pull side. Middle of the order type bat.
Power: 96.68 mph Exit Velocity via TrackMan.
Run: 7.31 Laser Timed

Ty Silva OF / RHP / Shadow Ridge, NV / 2023

Body: 6-foot-1, 187 pounds.
Defense: OF. Confident, fluid actions in the OF. Opens up to receive the ball with midsection exchange into his crow hop. Athleticism shines defensively. Projects as a corner OF type, but his improving speed could allow him to hold down a premium position in CF at the next level.
Arm: RH. 83 mph. Accurate with some carry.
Hit: RH. Squared, athletic set up. Simple rock back into his back side load. Short to the ball with excellent barrel awareness. Lifts through extension. Produced one of the top offensive rounds during his BP session. Understands how to elevate with a double during the Simulate Game play as well.
Power: 102.12 mph Exit Velocity via TrackMan.

Anthony Victoravich OF / LHP / Coronado, NV / 2023

Body: 5-foot-11, 150 pounds.
Defense: OF. Controlled routes through the ball. Feet work to get him on line. Fundamentally sound in his approach and transfer. Current corner OF type.
Arm: LH. 83 mph. Short, quick arm cycle. Accurate with some carry.
Hit: LH. Open, balanced set up. Low hovering stride back to square. Hands work to stay inside the ball. Works on plane through the zone. Line drive producer.
Power: 81.29 mph Exit Velocity via TrackMan.
Run: 7.59 Laser Timed

Caden Hunt C / OF / Coronado , NV / 2023

Body: 5-foot-10, 160 pounds.
Defense: C. Improving actions. Strength in hands and forearms. Receiving is trending in the right direction. Quick catch and throw. 1.93 Pop Time. OF. Works to get himself on line to target. Casual approach to the ball. Chest high exchange. Relies on athleticism through fielding process.
Arm: RH. C - 75 mph. OF - 81 mph. Short, quick arm action.
Hit: LH. Tall, open set up. Simple stride back to square. Slight arm bar load. Uphill bat path through the zone. Some rotational features. Line drive producer when he stays through it. HIgh one handed finish. Power potential is turning into present power, especially to the pull side.

Dominick Rush OF / RHP / Liberty , NV / 2023

Body: 5-foot-9, 165 pounds.
Defense: OF. Easy, confident routes to the the ball. Feet work to get in rhythm for quick field/throw. Advanced routes to the ball with quality first step. Corner OF type with CF potential as his speed continues to improve.
Arm: RH. 81 mph. Quick, clean arm action. Accurate with some carry.
Hit: RH. Athletic, balanced set up. Sinks back into load with medium leg kick. Short to the ball with some uphill in his swing path. Stays mostly in the big part of the yard. Flashes some power potential.

Trevor LaPres OF / RHP / Lake Mead Christian Academy, NV / 2023

Body: 6-foot-3, 170 pounds.
Defense: OF. Confident actions through the ball. Feet work well to get him on line. Simple shuffle into his throws. Corner OF type.
Arm: RH. 80 mph. Short arm action. Accurate.
Hit: RH. Athletic,open set up. Knee to knee load. Short to the ball. On plane through the zone. Can spray line drives to all fields. Balanced finish. Power is coming, especially to the pull side.

Alex Rhynes OF / SS / Centennial, NV / 2023

Body: 5-foot-10, 160 pounds.
Defense: IF. Plays with bounce. Feet work well to get him through the ball. AA range to both sides with feel for the backhand play. Projects to stay at SS at the next level. OF - Aggressive, confident routes. Clean exchange through midsection into shuffle/throw. Athleticism shines through defensively with the ability to play and excel at any spot.
Arm: RH. IF - 79 mph. OF - 80 mph. Short, quick arm action. Some carry.
Hit: RH. Athletic, closed set up. Low hovering leg kick with slight coil load. Drives the ball with authority when on time. Bat starts and stays on plane. Some natural lift through extension. Produced a line drive filled round. Showed power potential to the big part of the yard, especially to the pull side.

Payton Smith SS / 2B / Bishop Gorman, NV / 2023

Body: 5-foot-11, 160 pounds.
Defense: IF. Hops into his set up. AA Easy, fluid actions through the fielding process. Feel for the hop and timing to maintain smooth actions. Presents his glove well, funneling into his midsection. Ranges well to both sides with comfort in the backhand play. One of the top defensive performance in the 2023 Class.
Arm: RH. IF - 78. Loose, quick arm. Can change slots to maintain fluidity.
Hit: RH. Spread, squared set up. Early stride. Compact stroke. Level through the zone. Some uphill through extension. Produced a line drive filled round. Stayed within his approach throughout his BP Session.

Jared Layfield C / OF / Arbor View , NV / 2023

Body: 5-foot-9, 175 pounds.
Defense: C. Improved receiving. Athleticism helps him with set up. Some flexibility. 2.01 Pop Time. Feet work to get him into position to block. OF. Athletics through the ball.Confident routes. In rhythm to have consistent field to throw. Feet work to get him on line. Corner OF type.
Arm: RH. C - 73. OF - 77 mph
Hit: RH. Tall, open set up. Simple stride to square. Rotational type swing. Quickness in the hands. Some uphill through the zone with barrel awareness. Lived mostly middle, middle/pull.

Stephen Bryce Ferrer-Leo LHP / 1B / Palo Verde, NV / 2023

Body: 6-foot-2, 165 pounds.
Defense: 1B. Works off the bag well. Easy actions through fielding process. Feet stay underneath him. OF. Natural actions. Confident through the ball. Active feet to get him on line to his target. Simple, chest high exchange. Gets the ball out quickly.
Arm: LH. OF - 76 mph. IF - 78 mph. Quick, loose arm. Understands how to counter ASR.
Hit: LH. Squared, spread set up. Coiled load with simple pick up, put down stride. Short to the ball with some length through extension. Balanced finish. Line drive producer. Lived gap to gap.

Marcus Matias OF / LHP / Bishop Gorman , NV / 2023

Body: 5-foot-7, 175 pounds.
Defense: OF. Easy, confident routes. Smooth with his approach. Works through the ball with shuffle into his throw. Corner OF type.
Arm: LH. 76 mph. Clean, loose arm action. Understands how to counter his ASR. Accurate.
Hit: RH. Spread, athletic set up. Simple rock back load. Pick up/put down stride. Efficient to the ball. Level through zone with some natural lift through extension. Stays in his legs well. HIgh finish helps him elevate. Produced a loud, line drive filled round. Balls driven to both gaps. A 4 for 4 day during the Simulated Game

Defense: OF. Aggressive routes to and through the ball. Feet work to get him on line to his target. Confident actions. Present corner OF type with potential to move to CF is his speed continues to progress.
Arm: RH. 76 mph.
Hit: LH. Squared, athletic set up. Simple stride with shoulder high hand rhythm. Efficient to the ball. On plane through the zone. Some lift through extension. Produced a line drive filled round to all fields. Racked up multiple hits during the Simulated Game. Potential top of the order bat.
