CHSAA Championship: Iona Prep vs. Monsignor Farrell

Compiled from Staff Reports

CHSAA Championship Round

Monsignor Farrell
Record:
23-0
How did they get here:
Defeated Holy Cross and Xaverian to advance.
Key Contributors:
Vin Vitacco, Nick Lepre, Vin Zappulla, Jerry Huntzinger, Hayden Gumb & Chris Taliercio
Prediction:
Dominant all year with three arms ready to go. Vitacco (Rider Commit) not only 8-0 on the mound but leads team in avg, RBI and homeruns. Lepre (Wagner), with great command might get the start Friday night. Farrell is just to deep but sometimes the layoff in the postseason can be detrimental against a team that has had to play nearly everyday to make it back. 23-0 in CHSAA play this year.

Iona Prep
Record:
20-8
How did they get here: Clawed their way back to the final series after a second round heartbreaking loss to Fordham Prep. Defeated McClancy in the opening round along with Holy Cross, McClancy again and Fordam Prep in a rematch to advance.
Prep in rematch to advance to the final series.
Key Contributors:
Anthony Piccolino, Mike Gorman, Dylan Sabia, Joe Iengo, Sam Bello
Prediction:
Clawed their way back to the final series after a second round heartbreaking loss to Fordham Prep. If prep can somehow get to a second game, Piccolino gives them a shot. Gorman is a high end defender and does not give at-bats away.

Our Thoughts

"Farrell has been dominant from day one and has three Division I arms lined up to take game one tonight. Iona Prep has 3 arms unavailable due to pitch counts as they fought their way back through the loser's bracket. If they find a way to scratch out a win today, look for the the man of the postseason LHP Anthony Piccolino to get the ball on Saturday night in a winner-take-all scenario. Love Iona Prep's attention to detail and they way they get after it but we need to go with the stock piled Farrell to seal the deal tonight."
