2015 1B/P Calvin Blish (Elmira HS, NY) starts the year out red hot

Starting the year out right is what every high school ballplayer hopes for. Having quality innings on the mound, or quality at-bats can help ease the pressure of early season gitters. Calvin Blish (Elmira HS, NY) took starting the year off right to a whole different level.

In his first ten at-bats of the season Blish has eight hits, two home runs, two doubles, and eight RBI's. "So far I'm seeing the ball really well, trying to jump on first pitch strikes and drive the ball to all fields," Blish said. This type of start has kick started Elmira HS to a 2-0 record to open 2014. Blish has always had potential to be a strong player, but in the past he hasn't always put a consistent season together. "This year we changed his approach to be more balanced and he is really doing a nice job staying back through the strike zone," said Jason Manwaring the Head Baseball coach for Elmira HS. "If Calvin can continue to stay focused and keep the same approach hitting, he could really help some schools out in the future, time will tell." Manwaring who set all types of hitting records at Mansfield University in (02-03), has made a positive impact on Blish. "Coach Manwaring has really helped me out a ton, from showing me what I need to work on, to just making me a better all around player day in and day out," said Blish. "He's also been a big help to me and my family getting my name out there for college coaches to see." Having a coach with Manwaring's baseball background can't hurt, so now all Blish needs to do is continue to work hard and let the rest play out. Going eight for his next ten wouldn't hurt either.
