Championship Week: Class B Final Four

Compiled from Staff Reports

Class B Final Four / The Breakdown

Mattituck (Section 11)
Record:
19-6
Road to Binghamton:
Defeated Wheatley 1-0 in the Long Island regional and then Rondout Valley 5-2 to make it to Binghamton.
Key Contributors: Matt Heffernan
, Bryce Grathwohl and Brendan Kent
Semifinal Matchup:
vs. Livonia; 5:30pm at Binghamton University
Prediction:
Tough draw in game one if it's LHP Reid VanScoter but the Long Island players are familiar with good arms throughout the HS and summer seasons. Kent with two no-hitters in the postseason could create an epic matchup in the first round.

Livonia (Section 5)
Record:
21-2
Road to Binghamton:
Livonia knocked off Fredonia on Saturday. The Bulldogs beat Hornell in the Class B final. They opened the sectionals with a win over Greece Odyssey before knocking off Wellsville.
Key Contributors:
Reid VanScoter, John Smith
Semifinal Matchup:
vs. Mattituck; 5:30 at Binghamton University
Prediction:
VanScoter (9-0) will be taking the mound at his future home a couple of weeks after one the most dominating performances in state playoff history, a 21 strikeout no-hitter  in the section final that drew national attention. He also punched out 9 in his win over Fredonia to advance to Binghamton.

Albany Academy (Section 2)
Record: 19-4
Road to Binghamton: Key Contributors:  Brett Young, Johnny Decker, Ethan Duda, EJ Birch, Ben Seiler
Semifinal Matchup:
vs. Seton Catholic; 3pm at Binghamton University
Prediction: Quite possibly the most balanced team in the bracket at the plate and on the mound. Seiler (8-1) and Birch (5-0) carry the workload on the mound with a solid option in Duda also available. Young has 5 bombs on the year and is a steady defender.

Seton Catholic (Section 4)
Record: 18-4
Road to Binghamton:
Key Contributors: Mason Vaughan, Zachary Pruden, Nick Corino, Leo Gallagher
Semifinal Matchup: vs. Albany Academy; 3pm at Binghamton University
Prediction: Will have plenty of support as the geographic home team. Vaughan a corner infield slugger has taken on a role as one their top arms. Balanced team that will need to do the little things right to bring it "home".

Our Thoughts

"There are no Cinderella stories here; everybody in this bracket has put together magical seasons and deserves the opportunity and the right to bring home the trophy. We've relied heavily on pitching in our earlier predictions. The Livonia-Mattituck game will have the best matchups on the mound where Albany Academy and Seton may feature a little more offensive action. This a pure gut feeling pick...Albany Academy may be the team that survives the weekend and takes it all."
