Commitment: Penn St.

The Paltridge File

TELL US MORE...

Tell us about your commitment to Penn St. Why did you decide on your school?
I chose Penn State to further my education at a great institution and take my baseball skill to the next level. And I fell in love with the coaches who bring off a family vibe to me as a player.

The offseason is upon us. Tell us a little about your off-season training:
In the off-season I train at Frozen Ropes in their B4 program they have. And also I decided to play basketball again to build my cardio up. Also had shut down my arm to give it a rest then come January 1 I will start my throwing program and hitting sessions.

Baseball is a game built on adversity & failure. How have you dealt with the the ups & downs the game brings? Who might have helped you along the way?
Baseball is definitely a game a failure going 3 for 10 puts you in the Hall of Fame. The game brings ups and downs and even if I make a mistake or have a bad at bat you always got to flush it and learn from it and move on. One coach in particular, Denis Mclaughlin, of Warwick, NY who pitched at the Triple-A level, was definitely someone who has helped me. At a young age he taught me a lot about the game that I hadn’t known about yet. Also my current high school baseball coach Al Trezza at Burke Catholic also has taught me so much and also had helped me through the recruiting process.

Who is your biggest influence in the game today?
One of my biggest influences is my dad. He always is there for me and always there to talk about my games. There is something he always says that I will never forget, “Richard, remember, it’s not where you start, it’s where you finish”.

Best player you ever shared the field with and why?
Frank Demaro, he is my shortstop for travel ball and school ball. He is definitely the best player I’ve shared the field with. We have played together forever and made so many memories over the years and we always made the game fun and always cheered each other up if one of us struck out or made an error.

How has your experience been with Prep Baseball Report?
PBR events are great for talented baseball players who want the exposure. Personally the best thing I went to was the New York State Games . It’s where Penn State found me. It allowed me to get huge exposure with over 100 colleges there. It really was an event that made my recruiting process explode.

IN CLOSING...
