President, New York

Last Saturday PBR-NY hosted it's 'Last Chance Preview' for upstate NY players at beautiful Onondaga Community College. The event was broken down into two mini events; one for uncommitted 2018 graduates, and the second one for 2019-and down graduates. All together our scouting staff was able to see and report on over 60-players on the day.

The Prep Baseball Report - NY is your No. 1 source for all amateur baseball coverage in NY, including 24/7 promotional material via several multi-media platforms. Taking things one step further, and something that is often forgotten, we are an unbiased Scouting company. Below is a look at the day's scouting blog on some of the player's that stood-out.

Highlights

2018 3B Sam Jenkins (East Syracuse-Minoa HS)
Solidly built at 5-foot-11, 187-pounds. Overall very strong performance, showing athleticism for his position running a 7.02 60-yard dash with a serviceable arm (77 mph) with accuracy to the bag. At the plate he uses loose hands, tempo and rhyme in his swing, short and compact with power to the gaps. Lead the way with 93 mph exit velo. Should garner attention from his performance.

2018 MIF Parker Wing (Jamesville-DeWitt HS)
Wing stands 5-foot-11, 155-pounds with a lean build, size projection of 15 pounds. Impressed defensively showing a fundamental approach, strong arm with carry at 82 mph from shortstop.

2018 3B/C Dan Coogan (Baldwinsville HS)

Lean at 6-foot- 150-pounds with room to grow. Shows some strength in the swing during BP with an 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. Pop time of 2.07 behind the dish with a 70 mph arm showing fast release with active footwork. His frame can handle added strength and size this winter which will up his bat-speed and arm-strength. Late northern bloomer with ability.

2018 C Isaac Blanford (Fayetteville Manlius HS)

Blanford stands 5-foot-11, 170-pounds with a solidly built frame. Recorded a 2.09 pop time from a 72 mph arm-strength and carry, shows accuracy to the bag. An emphasis on foot-speed this off-season, combined with some increased arm-strength and Blanford will be below 2.0 this spring.

2018 RHP Shane Tiernan (Madrid Waddington HS)
Great size one the mound standing 6-foot-2, 180-pounds with additional size projected to his lean build. Wide base with tempo to his delivery, high knee lift, back long arm-action, quick hand-speed with a release from a mid-¾ slot. Fastball sat 80-82 mph with run and sink to his arm-side (have seen him up to 84).

2018 RHP Anthony Nardelli (Baldwinsville HS)
Nardelli has great size on the mound standing 6-foot-2, 180-pounds with a frame able to hold more weight. Easy tempo during delivery, straight back arm-action with a slight pause, arm works quick through release with front extension, peaked at 81 mph with some run to the arm-side.

2018 RHP Josh Miles (Olean HS)
Miles has a pitcher's build standing 6-foot-2, 185-pounds with broad shoulders. Showed command of fastball and feel for breaking ball during his bullpen. He uses a slightly crouched upper half during his delivery with a slower pace to his mechanics. Arm action works clean and easy, firm front side, releases the ball from a mid-¾ slot. Fastball was 78-80 mph at times late sink. Shows a confident feel in his curveball with 11/5 shape.

2019 RHP Ethan Baldwin (Ogdensburg HS)

Strong athletic build (ran a 7.1 60-yard dash) standing 6-foot-2 175-pounds. Projects on the mound at the next-level. Easy tempo in delivery with above belt knee lift. Arm circle is fluid and clean with quick hand-speed. Releases the ball from a high-¾ slot, 81-83 mph fastball, at times shows feel for a 11/5 shape breaking ball with late depth. Upper 80’s arm by next summer.

2019 RHP Jacob Marshall (Baldwinsville HS)

Standing a lanky 6-foot-5, 175-pounds with a body frame able to hold plenty more size, Marshall oozes projection as a northern arm. Starts with a side angle from the full wind-up, simple repeatable mechanics, hands over head, high knee lift. Clean loose arm-action, releases the ball from a power ¾ slot with a fastball peaking at 83 mph, sitting 81-82 with tilt. Shows a slider (76-78) and curveball (71-74) both with sweeping shape, loose.

2020 RHP/1B Jacob Sanders (Auburn HS)
Solidly built standing 6-foot-1, 185-pounds with broad thick shoulders. Wide base in the box with a loose approach. Slight knee lift on the pitch for timing, back load, short path to the ball with a mostly level barrel through contact, long extension. Showed consistent barrel contact with some loud contact. Young with strength gains needed, but building blocks are there for Sanders to become a high level prospect. On the mound there’s a lot to be intrigued by. Size, mechanically sound with 78-80 mph fastball, easy signs of more velocity to come. 63-65 curveball, 70-71 change up. Player to keep a close eye on.

2019 LHP Zach Monica (Baldwinsville HS)
Monica stands 5-foot-11, 165-pounds. He uses a side step to a high knee lift during his delivery, hands balanced over his knee, sound mechanically. Uses side-to-side shoulder separation, arm-action back towards the shortstop (front-side towards 1B dugout), front side opens up slightly on the stride with some momentum carrying him towards 3rd base side. Releases from a mostly high arm-slot with fastball sitting 80-81 mph with arm-side run and depth. Curveball range is 65-68 with more 12/6 shape type pitch. Would benefit from some increased hand-speed on BB. Shows pitchability.
