On Deck Preview: Capital Region (1 of 3)

Jared Carrier
Executive Director, NY

As the staff at PBR-New York is ready to embark on 2022, let's take a look at players that are ready to make that next jump during this year's Preseason All-State Tour.

PRESEASON ALL-STATE - Capital Region

Percentage Full: 60%
Registration Deadline: February 16th
Current Roster

William Canale III RHP / SS / Niskayuna, NY / 2023

What to expect:
Lean build with room for physical and velocity gains; long and loose arm action on the mound with some feel to a 12-6 curveball.

What we’d like to see: Continued refinement at the plate and defensively. As he matures physically and adds strength, it will come.

Alexander Deitz SS / RHP / Schenectady, NY / 2024

What to expect:  Easy effort actions in the box with above average on-plane efficiency. Moves well in the middle of the diamond with adequate arm strength. Free and easy arm on the mound with short action CB and fading CH.

What we’d like to see: At times a more compact swing path with more line drive results; improved 60 to stay in the middle of the field.

Michael Gage OF / RHP / Mohonasen , NY / 2023

What to expect: Lean, projectable frame at 6-0 145 pounds with a FB approaching 80 MPH; short arm action. High end Blast metrics with Rotational acceleration (22.8 peak) and on-plane efficiency avg (73.9).

What we’d like to see: Continue to physically develop, be more aggressive from the OF with his approach; stay behind the ball longer in the box and tap into the legs more.

JJ Hunter C / RHP / Lasalle Institute , NY / 2024

What to expect:  Strong, durable build at 5-11 195lbs. Consistently hard contact with slightly above average peak bat speed for the 2024 class nationally. Has shown some arm strength with respectable pop times. Has also been up to 81MPH on the mound as well.

What we’d like to see: Consistent with his timing so that he is able to get the ball out in front and take advantage of his strength. Cleaner transition from glove to throwing hand behind the plate.

Michael Mack RHP / SS / Saratoga Springs, NY / 2024

What to expect:  Prototypical pitcher's build at 6-foot-1 with room for gains. Sat 80-82, T 83 MPH in two outings over the summer that we observed. Natural lift with power potential at the plate. Controlled, methodical actions up the middle.

What we’d like to see: Improved footspeed to stay in the middle of the field defensively; consolidation or more separation of his breaking balls (CB/SL). SL featured higher spin, more horizontal movement and more in the zone. Slight increase with MPH differential with his change up.
