President, New York

Our "Player Spotlights" will be reserved for any prospect across New York who's abilities on the field have made some noteworthy recent buzz. Possibly a recent event where a Top Performer Spotlight article is just not enough, or maybe a recent commitment to a major program. Whatever it is, I'll (Dan Cevette) be going in-depth on the player spotlighted below with personal insight and honest feedback. Let's get started.

Diego Urreta 2B / 3B / Walter Panas , NY / 2020

CEVETTE'S QUICK HIT: Advanced offensively with an easy approach, fluid rhythm, and signs of more juice to come. The glove is clean, profiles to stay on the right side of the infield and flat out hit. Continued development to his athleticism will be important as he matures.

SCOUTING REPORT: Urreta stands 5-foot-11 175-pounds with a sturdy frame. He ran a 7.89 60 and a 4.58 home-to-1B. Offensively- At the plate, slightly open stance from the left side, relaxed hands on the setup. Leg kick with a small stride for timing on the pitch barrel path is direct to the ball, level plane, medium-length one arm finish, 87 MPH exit velocity showing above-average bat speed from the 2020 graduate. Defensively- Relaxed methodical actions from his lower half to the ball, wide base, filled with a soft glove throws from a high three quarter slot 78 MPH arm strength across the diamond, increases foot speed going into the summer should be a high priority in order to stay in the middle of the field. Overall very nice looking prospect in this current sophomore class that projects better at 3B at this point.
