Preseason Scout Blog: NE Pride Workout

PBR New York scouts were on hand for one of the final indoor workouts for the Northeast Pride travel organization. Below is a quick hit list of some of the standout performers that caught our scouts eyes. 


2020 RHP/OF Aidan Curry (Fordham Prep)
A projectable 6-foot-4, 180-pound lank frame.  Ran an impressive 7.11 60 yard dash. Offensively- Stands in the box with feet shoulder width apart, slightly open, and hand near the head. Small simple load, quick to the hitting zone, and slight lift at the point of contact. Displayed consistent hard contact during the hitting zone. Exit velocity was 89 MPH. The 2020 graduate has a lot left in the tank with the bat. Defensively- Under control and aggressive charging the baseball. Above average exchange to a loose long ¾ arm slot. Throws have some carry and had a OF velocity of 90 MPH. Pitching- The projectable RHP displayed repeatable mechanics with loose whippy arm action. Tempo, high leg kick with a smooth hand separation before getting downhill. FB peaked at 86 MPH with some downward tilt into the zone, more velocity in the tank. CB ranged from 63-65 MPH and feel for a 72-74 MPH CH. The 2020 graduate has the frame to continue to increase his number with the bat and on the mound. 

2020 RHP/MIF Eric Yost (Fordham Prep)
A lean 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. Ran a 7.5 60 yard dash. Offensively- Stands in the box with a tall stance with a slight bend in the knees. Simple load with a short stride towards the pitcher before attacking the baseball. Quick to the point of contact, balanced throughout the swing, and finishes with a one hand finish. A lot is left in the tank for the 2020 graduate. Displayed some power potential with a 92 exit velocity. Pitching- Works mainly from the left side of the rubber. Repeatable delivery, with smooth hand separation into a high ¾ loose arm action. Leads with a close front hip towards the target, and works downhill. Slight shoulder tilt at hand separation. FB peaked at 88 MPH with downward action, CB is sharp with an early break at 73-76 MPH, and feel for a CH at 79-81 MPH. Very good looking prospect in the 2020 class.

2020 RHP Von Baker (Oppenheim Ephratah St. Johnsville)
A physical 6-foot-7, 245 pounds projectable frame. Pitching- The big RHP has a smooth delivery with a live heavy FB. Slides to the left side when getting into his delivery. Displayed a shoulder tilt from his balance point with a smooth hand separation. Keeps the front side closed and drives the front hip toward the target. FB peaked at 88 MPH and showed feel for a CH 74-75 MPH. The big 2020 RHP increased his numbers from the last workout with PBR. The 6-foot-7 frame and development should show even more velocity gains moving forward.

2021 C Derek Bender (Albany Academy)
A physical 6-foot-1, 190 pounds. Ran a 7.48 60 yard dash. Offensively- stand in the box in an athletic position with a slight bend in the knees. Loose hands, simple load, with a leg lift before attacking the ball. Displayed a quick short compact swing into the hitting zone. Balanced throughout the swing and finishes with one hand follow through. Exit velocity was 89 MPH. The 2021 has a lot more in the tank with the bat.  Defensively- Athletic base and a big target. Displayed a quick transfer with a quick short arm action on the throws to 2b. Accurate throws with some carry to 2B.  Active feet throughout the drills. The pop time range was 1.97-2.0 with a velocity of 76 MPH. Coastal Carolina commitment.

2020 C Michael Rocas (Amsterdam)
A physical 5-foot-10, 180 pounds. Ran a 7.45 60 yard dash. Offensively- Stands in the box with a slight bend in the knees. Starts with a slight backward leg lift with a short stride forward towards the pitcher. Quick bat to the hitting zone, wants to lift the ball at the point of contact. Balanced swing and one hand finish. Exit velocity was 87 MPH. Defensively- Wide athletic base, quick release, and quick transfer. Will get high at times when throwing. Strong accurate throws at 74 MPH. The pop time range was 2.03-2.12. Big summer for the 2020 backstop.

2022 C Nicholas Badillo (Lakeland)
A physical 6-foot-0, 200 pounds. Ran a 7.46 60 yard dash. Offensively- Stands in the box with a tall open stance. Bat will rest at the shoulder and loads smoothly with the front foot before attacking the baseball. Quick to the hitting zone with natural bat whip, clear the hips at through the point of contact. A lot more in the tank with power potential. Exit velocity was 85 MPH. Defensively- Athletic base and a big target. Smooth footwork during the throw-downs. Quick transfer and release from a ¾ angle. Throwing velocity was 76 MPH. The pop time range was 1.90- 2.06. The 2022 graduate is a must follow, excited to see him this summer. 

2023 RHP/MIF Joseph Curreri (Honesdale)
A lean 5-foot-10, 155 pounds. Ran a 7.75 60 yard dash. Offensively- Short simple load, short stride towards the pitcher before attacking the baseball. Quick to the hitting zone with no wasted movement. Balanced throughout the swing. A lot more in the tank. Some strength development will increase all bat speed and power potential. Displayed consistent line drive swings in the hitting portion. Exit velocity was 72 MPH. Defensively- Displayed active footwork and solid infield actions. Gets in a good position when attacking the baseball. Follow the throws with a easy ¾ arm slot across the diamond at 70 MPH. Moves well laterally. Pitching- Smooth repeatable delivery. Starts with an under control high leg kick. Smooth hand separation with a slight shoulder tilt, leads with the front hip downhill. FB 81 MPH has downward action and mixed in a CB 66-68, and CH 72-75 MPH. The eight grader has a high ceiling and is a must follow going forward.

2021 MIF/RHP Christopher Ubner (Cooperstown)
A lean 5-foot-8, 165 pounds. Ran a 7.39 60 yard dash. Offensively- The 2021 graduate stand in the box with feet shoulder width apart. Starts with loose hands, short load, slight leg lift which will hang before attacking the baseball. Displayed a short compact swing into the hitting zone. Consistent hard contact during the hitting portion. Exit velocity was 87 MPH. Defensively- Active feet, above average exchange with long arm action. Stays low with a wide base when fielding the baseball. Will stay back on the ball. Throws across the infield were peaked at 76 MPH.

2020 RHP/1B Orin Winslow (Ramsey)
A physical 6-foot-3, 230 pounds. Offensively- Stands in the box with a tall stance and slight bend in the knees. Uses a backward-step to a short stride toward the pitcher before getting in the hitting zone. Slight lift at the point of contact with a two hand finish. Displayed some power during the hitting portion. Exit velocity was 94 MPH. Defensively- Gets in a wide base and under control with fielding the ball. Soft hands into a quick ¾ release on throws in the infield. Topped throw in the infield was 80 MPH. Pitching- Smooth repeatable delivery. Slides into the left side of the rubber before delivering the baseball. Uses a high leg kick into smooth hand separation into a long ¾ arm action. FB peaked at 85 MPH, CB 70-72 has late break into the zone. The 2020 graduate is a must follow going forward. The projectable frame will only help increase his numbers.

2020 RHP/MIF Nate Kilburn (CBA Albany)
A lean 5-foot-10, 170 pounds. Ran a 7.71 60 yard dash. Offensively- Short load, slight leg lift before attacking the baseball. Displayed a quick flat bat path through the zone. Hipps cleared through contact. Showed some pull side pop in the hitting portion. Defensively- Stays back on the ball with a wide low base. Above average transfer when funneling, throws from a low ¾ arm slot across the diamond at 73 MPH. Pitching- Repeatable mechanics with some tempo. High leg kick, smooth hand separation to a high ¾ arm action. Goes downhill with intent. Live easy FB at 85 MPH, CB 69-71 MPH sharp and above average strikeout pitch, and feel for a CH 75-77 MPH. The 2020 is a must follow going forward.

2021 C Marc Milano (Briarcliff Manor)
A lean 5-foot-10, 165 pounds. Offensively- Stands tall in the box slightly open. Short load, throws into the hitting zone with a flat bat path. Balanced throughout the swing with a one hand finish. Exit velocity was 76 MPH. Defensively- Sits in a wide base, tends to stand straight up when throwing. Quick transfer to a low ¾ arm slot. Pop time range was 2.02-2.1.

2020 LHP/OF Will Kindl (Burnt Hill- Ballston Lake)
A lean 5-foot-10, 160 pounds. Ran a 7.31 60 yard dash. Offensively- Stands in the box with loose hands close to the body before entering the hitting zone. Short load, quick to the hitting zone with a flat bat path. Displayed consistent line throughout the hitting portion. Exit velocity was 75 MPH. Defensively- Smooth OF actions. Under control when approaching the ball. Smooth exchange to a long ¾ arm action. Strong accurate throws to the plate at 84 MPH. Pitching- The LHP has a repeatable delivery with an easy live arm.  Rocks back into his backside, smooth hand separation, and drives downhill towards the target. The LHP has a lot left in the tank on the mound. The LHP displayed good command an easy FB 80 MPH and goo CB 69-71 MPH. The 2020 LHP is someone to follow this spring/summer as he continues to develop.

2021 C Tyler Pugliese (Yorktown)
A projectable 6-foot-0, 173 pounds. Offensively- Presents loose hands and a short load before attacking the baseball. Quick flat bat path into and out of the hitting zone. Stays balanced throughout the swing. Displayed some power potential with an 84 MPH exit velocity. The 2021 graduate has plenty left in the tank with the bat. Defensively- Quick footwork during the catching portion. Displayed a quick transfer, quick high ¾ arm slot, and strong accurate throws to the 2B bag. The 2021 C stays low when making throws. Pop time range was 1.97-2.06.

2022 MIF Noah Sorensen (Scranton Prep)
A lean projectable 6-foot-0, 150 pounds frame. Ran a 7.40 60 yard dash. Offensively- Stands in the box with feet shoulder width apart. Hands are away from the body. Throws hands into the hitting zone. Displayed line drives during the hitting portion. With some added strength the numbers will increase. Exit velocity was 78 MPH. Defensively- Active footwork, displayed soft hands when attacking the baseball. Moves well laterally, above average transfer to a long arm action and follows the throws. Accurate throws across the infield at 77 MPH. The freshman middle defender is someone to follow going forward.

2020 1B Luke Padian (Fordham Prep)
The projectable 6-foot-2, 210 pounds. Ran a 7.83 60 yard dash. Offensively- The switch hitting 1B stand in with an open stance with low hands before attacking the baseball. Simple load with a leg lift towards the pitcher. Flat bat path through the hitting zone. Balanced throughout the swing. Displayed hard consistent contact from both sides of the plate. The right side has slightly more power. Exit velocity was 85 MPH. Defensively- Active footwork around the bag. Stays low when attacking the baseball, displayed soft hands. Quick transfer from a low ¾ arm slot. The 2020 graduate has good size at 1B and signs of juice in the bat. Good follow going forward.

2020 MIF Evan Hunter (Croton- Harmon)
The lean 6-foot-1, 160 pounds. Ran a 7.11 60 yard dash showing off his athleticism. Offensively- stands in the box in a crouch position with low hands. Moves his feet backwards before attacking the baseball. Quick in and out of the hitting zone with a short compact swing. Exit velocity was 83 MPH. Defensively- Active footwork, glove stays centered when fielding the ball. Smooth transition into a loose low ¾ arm slot. Moves well laterally. The 2020 INF moves well enough to play all the INF positions going forward. 

2021 OF/C Anthony Caputo (Walter Panas)
A lean 5-foot-8, 140 pounds. Ran a 6.97 60 yard dash. Offensively- Tall stance with loose hands near the head. Slight leg lift, simple load, and balanced throughout the swing. Flat bat path into the hitting zone. Displayed consistent middle of the field line drives in the hitting portion. Exit velocity was 79 MPH. Defensively- as an OF, Aggressive to the baseball, under control with a smooth transition to a high ¾ arm slot. Follows his throws towards the plate. The best throw from the OF was 68 MPH. As a C, fast twitch actions, above average footwork, quick release arm action to 2B. Top throw to 2B was 67 MPH with a pop time range of 2.15-2.20.

2021 LHP/OF Nicholas Mulvey (Westlake)
A lean 5-foot-9, 148 pounds. Ran a 7.32 60 yard dash. Offensively- High loose hands, slight leg lift towards the pitcher before attacking the baseball. Quick flat bat path to the hitting zone with one hand finish. Defensively- As an OF, aggressive footwork attacking the baseball. Uses active feet while getting his lower half through the ball, smooth transition with a ¾ high arm slot. The best throw from the OF was 80 MPH with signs of late carry and more in the tank. Pitching- Works mainly from the stretch. High leg kick into a smooth hand separation. Front side stays closed. Loose live arm. More in the tank. FB peaked at 77 MPH and feel for a good 66-67 MPH CH.

2020 INF Alexander Morse (Burnt Hills- Ballston Lake)
A lean 5-foot-10, 143 pounds. Ran a 7.55 60 yard dash. Offensively- Stands in the box with loose hands with a leg lift before attacking the hitting zone. Quick into the hitting zone, slight lift at the point of contact. Hips clear through contact, balanced throughout the swing with a two hand finish. Defensively- Active footwork, fields the ball slightly to the right, smooth exchange into a ¾ arm slot. Quick release and follows the throws across the infield. Active lower half using his feet to gather on throws. Best throw across the infield was 75 MPH.  Expect to see more gains this summers.
