Trio of arms hurl shutout for DII Maynard

DII Maynard 1 DII Sova 0

A trio of pitchers combined for the shutout, and DII Maynard won for the second time this season in Upstate Baseball League action at Towers Field on the campus of the University of Rochester, Thursday night. Jadon Masucci (Webster Thomas) started and scattered four hits over three innings for the win. The right-hander fanned three and walked three. Bobby Sellers (Rush-Henrietta) struck out three and walked two over two innings for the save.  Alan Michael LeFrois (Churchville-Chili) worked two scoreless frames for the hold. DII Maynard needed just three hits for the win. LeFrois reached on an error to start the third and eventually crossed home plate on an Anthony Bonacci (Greece Athena) RBI groundout. Kyle Egan (Eastridge) moved LeFrois with a single, and Jake Veniskey (Webster Thomas) put runners on the corners with a fielder’s choice. DII Sova threatened in the fourth. Grant Rodriguez (Rush-Henrietta) worked a one-out base on balls. Jett Kopalek (Rush-Henrietta) singled to left. After a passed ball put runners on second and third, Tristan Murray drilled a line shot that looked destined to find a patch of grass in left field, but Veniskey made a leaping grab at third and beat the runner to the bag for an inning-ending double play. Kopalek finished 2-for-2 with a walk on the night. Chris Sleeper (Rush-Henrietta) also collected a pair of hits in two at bats. Robby Merkov (Webster Schroeder) hurled two scoreless innings in relief for DII Sova. The right-hander struck out four and faced one batter over the limit. Evan Ziegelhofer (Webster Thomas) worked a three-up, three-down stanza needing just four pitches to finish the inning.

*Pending rain showers postponed the second contest of the night between DII Blatter and DII DiStaffen. The game is scheduled to be made up Saturday.
