Scouting Report

7/06/20

 

Physical: 6-foot-1, 165 pounds; lean, athletic frame. 7.87 runner in the 60.
Offensively: LHH. Wide, slightly open stance; hands pretty static with bat tip at load with a quick up & down stride. Average effort in lower half, stays behind the ball with compact swing through the zone. Consistent line drives to pull side; peak Trackman exit velocity of 85 MPH.
Defensively: Wide, athletic setup; laid back approach, fields out front. Smooth transfer; standard 3/4 arm slot. INF - 75 MPH.
Pitching: Methodical motion with knee to belt & shoulder turn, hides the ball from the hitter, even stride with a balanced downhill finish. Long arm action, high 3/4 arm slot. FB: T 77 MPH, 73-76 MPH. Good life & carry, stays behind the pitch from a high arm slot. CB: 62-65 MPH. 1-7 rotation, late break with some depth. CH: 67-70 MPH. Kills spin well, does not alter arm speed.

 

2/17/20

 

Physical: 5-foot-11, 150-pounds. Wiry frame with room for added weight.
Run: 7.64 runner in the 60.
Hit: LHH. Balanced stance, even base, hands start slightly below shoulders and move back along with small leg kick Short, direct barrel path, repeatable actions, high two-handed finish.
Power: 75 MPH raw exit velocity. Opposite field approach.
Defense: Controlled footwork, approaches the ball slightly upright, soft hands.
Arm: Long arm swing with high 3/4 slot. INF - 74 MPH.

Pitching Delivery: Controlled pace, slight turn at leg lift, Sits in back leg as he strides out in line with target; repeatable release point with all 3 pitches.
Arm Action: Long, easy arm action, high 3/4 slot.
FB: T74, 71-74 MPH. Locates around the zone with natural tail.
CB: 63-64 MPH. 12-6 shape, locates down.
CH: 64-66 MPH. Maintains arm speed.

 

9/21/19

 

Cook is a projectable two way player with a lean athletic frame. Offensively- the left handed hitter stands in the box with a wide base in the box. Keeps his hands close to his body and has a quick direct path to the baseball. Cook displayed a consistent line drive swing. Stays balanced throughout the swing. Defensively- the first basemen displayed active footwork around the bag and when fielding the baseball. Cook tends to wait for the ball hit right at him. Low effort actions. Smooth exchange to a quick release from a high ¾ arm slot. Pitching- the left handed pitcher displayed a repeatable delivery. Arm action is loose and projectable. Cook worked with a three pitch mix and improved his FB velocity from earlier in the summer. Cook is a projectable 2023 graduate that is a must follow. 


 

7/02/19

 

A lean athletic frame at 5-foot-10, 140 pounds. Ran an 8.36 in the 60 yard dash. Offensively- the left handed hitter stands in the box with feet shoulder width apart. Simple load action. Fast twitch hitting actions. Displayed hard consistent contact to the pull side. Top exit velocity was 74 MPH. Defensively- at 1B, displayed active footwork. Smooth funnel actions and throws from a high ¾ arm slot with low effort. Top throwing velocity from the infielder was 67 MPH. Pitching- the left handed pitcher displayed a repeatable delivery and a projectable arm. Works downhill with low effort from a balanced backside. Has a slight shoulder tilt. Displayed good FB command peaking at 73 MPH. RB range was 69-72 MPH and CB is loopy with late actions at 61-64 MPH. Showed feel for a CH 60-61 MPH. The 2023 graduate has upside and will be one to follow. 


 

2/25/18

 

Cook has a slim frame at 5-foot-4, 120-pounds.  He ran a 5.27 home to 1B. Offensively – Cook sets up in an open stance with front foot toe up.  He has a slight leg kick and a smooth stroke. The hands start away from the body, level to the head.  He has smooth hands to the ball and the bat angle changes with a drop angle of the hands to elevate; exit velocity is 60 MPH. Defensively – Cook sets himself square to the ball with soft hands. Presents glove out in front; works low to the ground with short infield arm action.  His arm strength is 53 MPH. Pitching – Compact drive up to his balance point; long arm action with little restriction. Fastball sits 60-61 MPH.  The curveball sits between 55-56 MPH, while the change up between 56-57 MPH.

 

 

June 2018

 

 

Lefty pitcher with consistent mechanics. Upper ¾ arm slot with a Fastball range of 61-63 MPH peaking at 65 MPH. Offspeed keeps hitters off balance, and is consistent in the strike zone. Holds runners well and works fast. Offensively, sets up in athletic stand with an inside-out swing. Drives ball well the other way. Talented young player.
