Winter Recap: Top Catcher Arm Strength

As the dust (or snow) starts to settle in here in New York, let's take a look back at our two week stretch of events from February 11th through February 25th. Overall we saw 56 catchers; 23 that eclipsed the 72MPH mark. Here are the 12 players that registered 75 MPH or better on their throw downs.

80 MPH

Ben Lavery C / 1B / Shenendehowa, NY / 2019

Physical 6-foot-3 210 pound RHH from the Capitol District who's pop times ranged from 1.97-2.03. He also registered an 89 MPH exit velocity and showed some explosiveness through the zone.

 

 


78 MPH

Luke Shliger C / 2B / Millbrook Prep, NY / 2020

The LHH's pop times ranged from 1.95-2.07; showed some whip through the zone while posting an 89 MPH exit velocity. The Connecticut resident also impressed as a middle infielder as well, running a 7.18 60. 

 

 

 

Robert Fratangelo C / 3B / Shaker, NY / 2021

The compact 5-foot-9 165 pound backstop flashed some bat speed at the plate with an 80 MPH exit velocity. The Capital Region player showed a quick release with his pop times ranging 1.96-2.06. 

 

 

 

Nicholas Winslow C / Saratoga Central Catholic, NY / 2020

Another Capitol District player that continues to be on the upswing. Winslow's arm strength was up and his pop times range from 2.00-2.09 with us recording a 1.96 at past events. He also posted a personal best 85 MPH exit velocity. 

 

 

 

Connor Fitzsimmons 1B / C / Pittsford Sutherland, NY / 2019

The 6-foot-5 215 pound catcher from the Rochester area posted his best arm strength with pop times ranging a consistent 2.06-2.08 with a recorded 2.02 at past events. The RHH stays in the zone a long time and posted a personal best 87 MPH exit velocity.

 

 


77 MPH

Carter Bach C / 3B / Colonie , NY / 2019

Full framed catcher from the Capitol District showed an improved arm and lowered his pop times to an impressive 1.91-2.00 range. The 6-foot-4 RHH posted a personal best exit velocity of 87 MPH with lift to both gaps. 

 

 

 

Andrew Sanchez C / Rush-Henrietta, NY / 2019

The PBR-NY veteran from the Rochester area posted all kinds of improved numbers with personal bests in arm strength, pop time range  (1.94-1.97), 60 (6.92) and exit velocity 89 MPH. 

 

 


75 MPH

Nicholas Castellana C / 1B / Lancaster , NY / 2020

The Niagara commit from Western NY had his best showing in front of the PBR-NY staff. Pounded the ball in BP and lowered his pop time range to 1.93-2.01.

 

 

 

Henry Juan C / 3B / Horseheads, NY / 2020

Another PBR-NY veteran from the Southern Tier. The RHH backtstop lowered his pop time range to 1.95-2.01 and increased his exit velocity to 90 MPH with a compact, balanced approach. 

 

 

Noah Cabassa C / 1B / North Rockland, NY / 2019

The Rockland County player continues to trend upward. Dropped his pop time range to 2.01-2.07 and continues to show an easy effort, repeatable stroke at the plate.

 

 

 

Adam Mieczkowski C / OF / Vestal, NY / 2019

Huge strides for the Binghamton area catcher with an improved pop time range of 2.03-2.06. The RHH hitter uses the whole field and posted and improved exit velocity of 85 MPH.

 

 

 

Adam Wojciechowski C / RHP / West Seneca East, NY / 2019

Another PBR-NY veteran who hails from Western NY. Posted a personal best in the arm strength department. The 6-foot-4 186 pound RHH uses a controlled approach at the plate, using the whole field. 

 

 

 

NOTE:

2020 C Kelvin Marte (Middletown) was the only player to register a sub 2.0 pop time with an arm strength below 75 MPH at 73 MPH. His range was 1.98-2.03.
