Donovan Corbett OF / RHP / Lakota East, OH / 2026Rankings StateRank: 58 / POS: 8
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP - “A freak athlete with massive upside.” That is how Kyle Weldon, Prep Baseball Ohio Director of Scouting, describes Donovan Corbett. “He showed off the defensive impact he can have during the Future Games with a number of defensive assists from the outfield,” Weldon said about the 58th-ranked junior in the state. “He limits extra bases with his coverage and arm strength. At the plate he’s prone to some aggressive mistakes but has made huge strides in plate discipline and strike zone awareness. His potential for power is obvious.” The desire to get better is strong for the 6-0 190-pounder. “I’m working on pitch selection and picking up the ball early,” the Lakota East junior noted. “I’m working on that along with hitting offspeed and the location of the fastball out of the pitcher’s hand.” The powerfully-built Corbett is of the belief he has a lot to bring to a college program. “I have a good work ethic and a strong love for the game,” Corbett explained. “I’ve loved baseball forever and so much want to succeed. I don’t know what I’d do without baseball. “It’s a way to get out of the drama of everything outside the game,” Corbett added about his passion for baseball. “It feels like where I’m able to be myself is on the diamond.” There has been a visit to Rice and a camp at Michigan over the past month with Corbett “looking for a couple more camps to go to in the winter.” Prep Baseball events in the summer were beneficial in his recruiting process according to Corbett. “I attended the Future Games which helped get my name out there to coaches and I also went to the Top Prospect Games before that,” the eighth-rated 2026 outfielder in Ohio related. “Those are the main two things that put me on the map for Aug. 1. I’ll also be doing the ProCase which should help before my junior season. Prep Baseball has really helped get me out to coaches with the exposure and showing metrics.” As for Aug. 1, the 16-year-old has mixed feelings. “I really only had two calls, with Rice and Michigan,” Corbett said. “A couple of others have reached out since, about going to camps, but I thought I might hear from a few more. I’m just trying to take it slow. I don’t want to stress myself out. Yeah, I want to go D-I, but there’s still stuff to work on through my recruiting process.” The seventh-rated uncommitted junior outfielder in Ohio is hoping that colleges take notice. “The more I can show how I’ve gotten better from previous events from the work I’ve put in the better,” Corbett explained. “I’ve really been working hard on the deficiencies in my game hitting wise.” Corbett, who carries a 3.5 GPA at Lakota East and is planning to major in either sport management or kinesiology in college, points to improving his game as a vital part of what he hopes to find at the next level. “I want a program that still focuses on development, a program that wants the best for its players,” Corbett noted. “I want someone who will be straight up and honest with you and let you know what they need in a player. “I don’t want to be too far from home, but if the school fits, it fits. I’ll be perfectly fine going anywhere.” Corbett is excited about what lies ahead, knowing 2025 is a big year for him. “Once the high school season starts I’m not worried about recruiting,” explained Corbett, whose timeframe on making a commitment is in the fall of senior year or early spring. “I’m trying to get myself where I want to be and get the goals I want for the season. I also want to get coaches out there to see what I’m capable of doing.” |
